Re: Guitar player concerned of me speeding up

Have not purchased it myself, but everything I have heard indicates that it is reliable.

Re: drum routine help

search for a link to Alan Dawson's rudimental ritual, play through that. Get stick control or any other book based on snare technique and work through those. I'm sure you can find some exercises...

Re: "Trapped" in the Groove

The way I see it, if you have to think about what you are going to play as a fill, you probably shouldn't be playing it. You don't want to be focusing on "Oh, I need to fit this lick in here or how...

Check those out. I love using flams for fill/solo ideas. Vinnie is just the ultimate flam phrasing guy imo,...

Re: Using ride cymbal well

Try playing closer to the bell; the further towards the bow you are playing, the more wash is generated by each stroke.

Re: Essential Drum Fills by Peter Erskine?

I have heard some positive comments on this book and from what I understand there are some great play alongs as well.

Re: Gloves? Yey or Ney?

I think Butt Rock is a far more fitting description of their connotation.

Re: Over Drumming

Are we bound to engage in these ceaseless, divisive, brackish, and ultimately impotent "Chops v. Groove" altercations ad nauseum? Drummers have seemingly debated this contentious topic since Time...

Re: 12 year old playing Travis Barker

wow...butthurt much? You come in with a video of a kid playing like a drummer many find unpalatable, invite commentary and then lash out when the video is criticized.

Re: Cobus vs. VaDrum - Who is better?

Let it be known that I harbor no animosity toward you, friend. No harm, no foul(to use a tired cliche). Haha, Age of Empires, nice, I haven't played that game in ages.

Re: Cobus vs. VaDrum - Who is better?

Ah, but therein lies the problem. This Sgt drummer cat busted a nut over my simple comment, I never stated that I wished to be taken with the utmost seriousness, but merely opined on what I thought...

Re: Ambitious summer practice plan

Sound advice. If you really can commit that much time to practice, try to devote some time each day to some theory and or/playing piano. When I was in high school, I maintained quite a rigorous...

Re: Cobus vs. VaDrum - Who is better?

Woah, didn't realize someone would take my comments about these individuals as so incediary. If you read my post, my reference to the reverence showered upon these two was pertaining to the youtube...

Re: Double bass pain!

Wait, so you are using a double pedal, and the slave beater is hitting your left leg? I don't see how that is feasible.

Re: 16th notes on Hi Hat

Just work on your chops and it will come in time. There really isn't any shortcuts to relaxed, clean 16th notes on the hats(or either hand for that matter).

Re: Help talk me out of this!

As much as I would like to tell you to go ahead and acquiesce to your desires, I don't think it seems practical for the style of music you play. Also, being that I suffer a bit from GAS(Gear...

Re: Is this sound possible?

Yeah, optimally I would say coated ambs over clear dips and crank the reso while mainting a reasonably high tuning on the batter.

Re: The book that influenced you the most.

I think you really hit on something here. Books are great for building technique and getting some ideas percolating, but I think the real influence for application can only be spawned through...

Re: Cobus vs. VaDrum - Who is better?

Oh...my...sweet Lord. I think this excerpt from the info for one of his videos is an adept summation: "I dont think in L and R. I dont count while playing either." By the sound of his videos, he...

Re: What song are you playing on drums?

Average White Band-Pick up the pieces
Classic tune, and my cousin's high school graduation party is coming up so I figured I would revisit this song as I am sure we will play and it will come up.

Re: Can jogging improve your speed or slow you down?

There seems to be a lot of "voodoo", if you will, surrounding the matter of improving one's double bass facility(ex:if I ride my bike to work will it result in a diminution of my double pedal...
