Re: What's your latest purchase?

Any specific grooves you're going to play with those? Something latin? Funk?

Re: What are your stories of when people found out you are drummer?

I tend not to tell people - I think that's because i'd feel like a fraud because I'm not really any good (yet - I'm working on it!)

Funny thing is that it took me about 2 months of learning to...

Re: Playing to click - the mechanics

Perfect, thanks for this info - I *do* want the option to hear the click in my ear and I'd heard someone talk of a solution like this without knowing the details.

I know playing to click live is...

Re: Playing to click - the mechanics

Ah, OK, that's interesting. i have some moulded in-ear plugs that I can convert to active IEMs so that may be the way to go... they cut the ambient noise levels by 17db (relatively flat across the...

Re: Playing to click - the mechanics

Thanks for the advice - seems to centre around not using a click for live playing...

My teacher does a lot of recording and always plays to a click - now, he has started to use the click at live...

Playing to click - the mechanics

I'm going to be auditioning to join a band in the next week or so (pretty nervous, it's my first time!) and need some specific advice...

When I'm practicing (on my own at the moment obviously) I...

Just digging it?

Just wondered when was the last time you enjoyed drumming so much that you just laughed, or felt high, or just smiled 'cause you were enjoying just playing?

Do you often find it 'just feels good'...

Re: Does your inner metronome ruin your appreciation of music?

Emmylou Harris on her album Red Dirt Girl has a track 'My Antonia' which wonders all over the place... the drums and the vocals never synchronise and I'm convinced it's a mistake and not deliberate.

Does your inner metronome ruin your appreciation of music?

Recently I've noticed two changes in my head - both since I've started to get better at 'hearing' that inner metronome that drummers seem to develop after a while learning.

The first is that I can...

Re: Attractive male drummers

Drummers are often the most energetic, involved, and passionately active members of a band - that makes them sexy - it's about how you move and get involved, not about how 'pretty' you are, that's...

Re: Do You Play Another Instrument Besides Drums?

Bass, Guitar (Classical) and Flute.. weird mix huh? Fun though :)

Played bass in a band for about a year before I realised I was getting irritated by a band member's jokes about all drummers being...

That's a very 'sitting on the fence' response...

That's a very 'sitting on the fence' response (with a slight bias to 'don't do it') :)

Understood - thanks for the advice...

Double pedal - a good idea for a beginner?

I've been taking lessons for about a year now and am improving - albeit slowly! The more I learn the more I can see of just how much effort is ahead of me - thankfully the journey is a scream, and...

Re: Trinity College drum kit grades

I think they've brought the format back in line with their other classical grades, with the same number of pieces, and technical exercises, along (finally!) with musical knowledge to make sure that...

Re: Too late to start? (19)

I started at 46 - now 47... a year on I can honestly say that I'd love to have started at 19, but life is all about the journey, not how fast you can get to the destination :) Enjoy every moment,...

Re: Which is harder to play - drums or guitar?!

Re: Which is harder to play - drums or guitar?!

In the last 10 years I've learnt to play flute, classical guitar, bass, and now drums. They're very dificult to compare. To some extent they have all been equally hard/easy to pick up to intermediate...

Re: Good day/bad day check-in

(very, very) good day!

I haven't played for about 10 weeks - I dunno, just lost all my mojo (and my confidence).

Picked up the sticks today for the first time since then and it was really great...

Re: Dog Ownership and Drumming

My dogs (8 year old labrador and 5 year old border terrier) can come and go in and out of the house as they please. When I practice, the labrador often comes and lies on my feet (making bass drum...
