Re: More creative drumming with a cape on?

There's probably a reason we haven't seen drummers in capes since Keith Moon. Tough to pull off.

Re: Potential drummer; have a maybe controversial question

If you buy smart you can get a good used starter kit for $300. I've done it many times. You don't need more except possibly new batter heads if the kit is well used. Get a Pearl Export kit and...

Re: Becoming a Professional Drummer

You're 16. You're not supposed to have any "qualifications". Study in school. Learn a profession or trade. Continue playing in your band and expand your musical interests and abilities. Study...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

I've been drumming professionally for 35 years, and playing for 45, and I too have never experienced this. Likewise, I find it impossible that you could get "air lock" with holes. It's physically...

Re: What's My Next Move?

For starters, you don't have to do anything. Start by making music. Get together, set up the gear and play. You will need to make sure everyone is capable/desirable of playing the music you want to...

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

It will be interesting to see what happens. I don't believe that any act will pay-to-play. The one's that can afford to, won't and the ones' who would, can't afford to. At the end of the day (to...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

I believe that very artist deserves the right to perform, begin and/or end every song exactly as he/she sees fit. I also believe that if (the universal) you doesn't like it, don't listen to artists...

Re: Bad hi-hat recording

Interesting perspective but the hats sound right to me as well. The song is dark and the hats match the song. Secondly, the sound is what I'm sure they wanted - exactly. The recording is well...

Re: Ginger Baker Turns 75: The Strange Life of Rock's Wildest Drummer

Mashable seems to forget a bit. I know time does that. Ginger's a great guy but, I'm not sure they really thought when dubbing him the wildest drummer. Compared to whom? - John Bonham, Keith Moon,...

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

Spending that kind of money on a college kit is great if money is (as stated above) no concern. However, spending too much, is too much. At that level of spending, YOU need to be the one testing...

Re: Weird symptoms before a show

Different people handle their pre-performance anxiety differently. Some take Alka-Seltzer, Tums, Pepto-Bismol. Some eat, some don't, some drink, some.... Find what works for you and since it doesn't...

Re: Tell me if this is a stupid idea

If I'm outdoors, or it's hot, I wear my gloves. Otherwise, just hold on and let her rip. If one flies, just grab another.

Re: Buddy Rich - Left-handed Clutch?

Choking the hats like that was part of his style. As Tony stated, you get a different sound than closing the hats with the pedal. However, I believe, more than anything it was a part of his playing...

Re: Drummers who don't use cymbal stoppers

It's all personal choice. I use top felts and wing nuts, like I have for 40 years. No need to change now. As stated in many posts above, the wing-nuts keep the felts on the post while transporting.

Re: Ringo should have performed at Candlestick Park not just Paul

Maybe because the concert booked was for Paul McCartney and that's what the public paid to see. The public (what ever that is) got what they paid for. And since Paul does about 3 hours non-stop, I...

All the usual drum places - try your local drum store (you know, the one you frequent) and Ebay usually has tons and your local Craigslist.

Re: Drummers are the smartest musicians

If we drummer's were smarter than the average bear, we wouldn't be drummers. Everyone knows the guitarist or frontman gets the chicks.... generally.

Re: Tuning toms to octaves

Tune them so they sound good to you. I tune everything to my snare. I start there then go around so that the head tension remains about the same (drum dial) and then fine-tune to perfection. Only...
