Re: Bass Drum Protection Debate!

I've broken two bass drum heads within literally days of using them, just because I was using a plastic beater. Just normal playing. The beater you use evidently makes a huge difference to the life...

Re: Is it too much to ask for a hard hitting and fast drummer?...

It's not correct to say that how hard you hit the drums doesn't make any difference...it makes an enormous difference. However this might be the sort of thing where you'd be better off auditioning...

Re: Most awkward song transition (or middle 8)

I used to feel that way about The Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin, the fast sections always felt a bit strange. But I've warmed to them over the years.

Re: Do you keep adjusting your kit?

I'm always fiddling around with my setup. I seem to adjust my throne height every day more or less! I feel your ride cymbal pain, mine is a 22" and it does make placement a bit more difficult,...

Re: Double bass used in professional situation....

All the time, since I play a lot of power metal stuff where its use is pretty much mandated!
It's definitely an important skill to have in your arsenal, but shouldn't be allowed to take precedence...

Re: The social stigma attached to Metal...

Both metal fans and jazz fans are defending 'their' music against all comers, be that Kenny G or Evanescence...

Re: The social stigma attached to Metal...

I regard what we've done with the image in Gloryhammer as a bit of a send-up of this obsession that the metal community has with pretending it isn't image-obsessed. You'd be amazed how many people...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

I'm selling my 1980s Ludwig kit (kick and toms only) which you can see and hear in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DajBN2aF2w) and this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qbg4pKqXbwc)....

Re: The social stigma attached to Metal...

It's just what you're used to. From a distance, it's all just metal, rather like if you went to live in, say, India, you'd probably find that all the music around you just sounded like Indian music....

Re: The social stigma attached to Metal...

I really think the community aspect is the thing that you have to understand to properly evaluate the music. In mainstream popular music the 'community' is the media circus where artists' wares are...

Re: Mapex Saturn shell construction history

Ah, also from a post on another forum (from 2010):

"Also (as nobody has mentioned it yet) they recently started coating the insides of the shells. I believe this was last year. The wood on the...

Re: Mapex Saturn shell construction history

Yeah, it is cool isn't it! I think this must be Laser Black Sparkle or whatever it was called. And I agree, it looks too pale to be walnut...but that could just be the picture as everywhere seems to...

Re: Mapex Saturn shell construction history

Ah, brilliant, thanks! Basically, I've just bought a 2007-vintage Saturn that I'm yet to go and collect and I wanted to find out how similar it is to the more recent ones.

Mapex Saturn shell construction history

Can someone tell me when Mapex changed the shell construction of the Saturn series from maple/basswood to maple/walnut? I'm particularly interested in what they would have been doing around 2006-07....

Re: Are Drummers (Generally) Crazy?

That was a double stroke roll on bongos with sticks, wasn't it?

The OP topic reminds me of this clip (http://youtu.be/cf2MmYtRlkY?t=2m13s).

It's not an unusual opinion though, drummers do seem...

Re: recording a drum 'set' using a single mic

This is great! Music like this makes me feel like I live in the future. I've seen the Project RnL stuff before and always thought it was really good.

Re: Bad reviews?

Probably means those bands didn't actually play on the records!

Someone posted this absolutely amazing comment on our Angus McFife video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTW30Q4B3Go) earlier today:...

Re: How do I motivate my bandmates?

My first band was like this. It took me three months before I decided to leave. If you're serious about getting anything done, do not tolerate timewasters. Ever.
