Re: Why Modern Pop Music Is So Awful To Some!!!

Ha. I may go see El Ten Eleven tonight. Today's music is pretty good if you ask me.

Here's some of that lousy unfeeling electronic crap from this...

Re: Open Handed Drumming

I'm also pretty new, but I like to practice left foot kick and left hand keeping time sometimes just for the coordination and help get my left half up to speed. I'm hard pressed to get those 16th...

Re: Does adding this Tom make sense?

My I piggy back here and ask almost the same question, as a relative newbie with an e-kit?

It's my understanding that the sound comes from resonating heads, and bigger heads at the same tension...

Re: Can you be a good drummer with bad math skills?

I would argue that there are quite many people who don't know much math, or don't like math, yet have a mind that can understand math.

For me, that thing that causes me to be good at math is...

Re: Beginner question regarding foot pedals

Does a "basic e kit" not have foot pedals?

I've only been at it a year now, but I find it very helpful to have foot pedals. I already feel it's too easy to neglect or forget about the feet.

Re: Help with French grip technique

I personally often switch from a more overhand grip to french grip for the ride for a couple reasons:

- Easier to get more finger motion and wrist rotation (turn the wrist almost backwards) vs up...

Re: Left hand goes stiff

Disclaimer: newb opinions to follow based only on my newb personal observations of my own practice lol.

If your muscles are feeling the work after 10 minute singles at 61 bpm, and yet somehow you...

Re: Hi-Hat Adjustment

So far I like em about 3/4" or so, enough that they don't touch when open unless I really lay into it. But for some reason it annoys me to have a huge range (like the 1.5" a couple said). I'm sure...

Re: Accent on second stroke doubles technique question

Hmm I still don't see why the first would have to be be choked or tense. He is demonstrating it without much finger snap but why? See 1:03 where he is holding the stick all rigid and not moving his...

Re: Drinking beer at a gig

Sitting at work, designing buildings, listening to Thunderpussy and drinking a PBR tall boy right now.

It'll be a good while before I'm gigging, but at the shows I visit (metal, rock, punk, pop...

Re: Beginner Metal Songs?

I can't seem to get into death metal but that song looks fun to play! Still not beginner friendly though, it would probably take me months of hard work every day to learn that lol.

That's cool how...

Re: Heel down doubles

I've been trying heel up recently and have a lot less control it seems... But also same issue as above, I tend to have to lean back. My drum teacher only plays heel up - he just keeps his toes down...

Blast beat continuous vs. single measure vs. isolating parts

Hey, I'm pretty new to drumming (6 or 7 months), but working on blasts for their all around good fast coordination skills plus I like metal here and there so I'll prob get to the point where I want...

Re: Double stroke vs. double bounce?

Dotted quarter 32nds at 93 is 1116 per minute, slightly less than quarter 32nds at 140. (12/32 = 3/8, 12x93=1116)
And that pad is hella bouncy.

Re: Double stroke vs. double bounce?

I'm with you on fingers never leaving the stick. They sort of follow the stick and control it. The stick will always bounce, otherwise it would just stop on the head like a magnet or else utilize a...

Re: Double stroke vs. double bounce?

Hi, I'm wondering what is meant by double stroke vs double bounce. My drum teacher wasn't sure either. Isn't a double stroke always bounced by definition? I.e. double hit per one stroke thus the...

Re: Where Do You Fit? - Poll

Hobby for now, but there isn't a "beginner and aiming for a bit more" category.
I'm only 6 months in and finally starting to feel semi comfortable behind a kit, but not yet comfortable jamming with...

Re: Is it acceptable to audition for multiple groups/bands?

Well, yeah, but willing to accept under the right circumstances. One can go in knowing that they might not accept as long as they also might accept.

Re: Do You Drum While Not Drumming?

I've been doing this for years, if not decades, and I've only been drumming 6 months.
The real drumming only makes the habit worse (or better, one could argue).

Re: Is it acceptable to audition for multiple groups/bands?

I don't have experience with bands (yet), but I disagree with Jon w/ regards to work. It is very common to interview, get an offer, and decline. The employee is interviewing the employer as well. If...

Watso, how would you go about writing out the drums? Print some blank music paper and hand write/erase/rewrite by pencil while looping 10 seconds over and over?? Seems difficult! I probably should...
