Re: Birch drums

Wildly unpopular choice, but if you can try a Premier Artist Birch.

Beautiful drums, sound amazing, dirt cheap.

I'm UK based, that may be why prices are so low...

Re: Mapex Saturn Pro?

I have a Saturn III which has isolated bass drum and floor tom spurs etc etc, and I don't find it overly heavy.

Yes, it's heavier than the M Birch it replaced, but I truly don't think the weight...

Re: Nicko McBrains Drum shop

I bought my saturn from there just before the rebrand. Craig, I think it was, the manager is a most excellent chap and I'd happily give them my business again. Quite what Nico McVain has added other...

Re: Need help to identify my black panther snare

Yes its a 5-year old thread BUT its an identical snare to mine.

Pretty sure it's not a stright Maple 5.5 as per the answer the OP seemed to accept; the throw-off and hardware colour aren't as per...

Re: Re-buying drum gear, biggest bang for smallest buck?

Just read somebody mentioning Premier Artist - these are great kits that go cheaply when they spring up. I'm in the UK and bought a birch 5-piece with cases, all hardware and some (admittedly dodgy)...

Re: Re-buying drum gear, biggest bang for smallest buck?

As far as value for money goes, you can't really beat Mapex. I play a Saturn, and before that had a M Birch, the range below the pro M.

I'd say the pro m is a good call, it has the little things...

Re: Where Do You Fit? - Poll

I'm a 2 - not much money at all, apart from the odd corporate gig. Mostly beer festivals and private functions for not much more than petrol money and free food/beer. Wouldn't have it any other way!

Re: Buying new snare but which one?

Mapex Armory Sabre (maple /walnut shell) is a great all-rounder, bought one for my son and he prefers it to my black panther maple. It is also available as the Peacemaker in a different finish. Same...

Re: Left-footed/Right Handed Hell

I'm left footed right handed but am totally self taught and taught myself to play on a left handed setup before realising there WAS such a thing as a left handed / right handed kit setup.

If I...

Re: How many drum kits have you owned?

Love this thread! I myself have had 7 kits, only 2 of which I have liked and would keep. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a history of dodgy kits...

1) 17 years old, first kit some POS from...

Re: I think I almost bit on an EBAY scam

Yup, I started a thread on this scam q week or so ago. Seems he or she hijacks someone's account and uses that.

I guess it's hard to stop when they keep hacking other people's accounts. Those...

Re: What should I look in a used kit?

Agree with analysis paralysis and taking on board the views of people here.

I started a 'renown or saturn' thread couple of weeks ago. General opinion was both are good, go with your gut. So I...

Re: mixing wood?

Totally get this. I myself love the attack of birch rack toms, but prefer a maple bass drum.

If I could afford it, I'd get a kit made up like that but for some reason I'd really struggle to mix...

Re: Snare vent hole position- marketing?

Yeah, I'm a lefty and those hanging toms always have a lefty badge plonked on the other side so I can advertise their wares

Mapex snare - Peacemaker vs Sabre

Looking for a snare for my son, quite like the look of these with a hybrid maple /walnut shell (sound familiar?!).

Apart from the finish, is there any difference? Both are the same wood, 7-plies...

Re: What should I look in a used kit?

My advice is this: don't rush into it. Get to know your local market. Watch ebay/local stores etc etc without buying. Watch the prices, see what goes for what. Eventually you will spot the bargains -...

Re: Sharing stuff here makes me forget...

I only really read this and one other drum forum (a drum manufacturer whose kit I sold years ago but there's some good stuff on there) and I see a much larger percentage of threads there degenerate...

Re: Need to know lug size and case size for my Saturn!

Here is a thread on case sizes for Saturns that suggests you need to size up for saturns. I know this contradicts what's been said on here, but it's food for thought.

Re: Boring Kit Colours

Agree with the black is meh movement. I currently have a 'transparent black' kit which shows the grain beautifully
through deliciously smooth lacquer when close up. Stand three feet away and it may...

Re: The Mid Range Kits

Unless you can actually get to sit behind these kits and play them, go with your gut. You'll never be sure it's 'the one' until you've spent some serious time with it.

I was in a similar situation...

Re: The Cheap Snare Thread

Yes, as a Brit I always wonder what people mean when they say acrolites are cheap - see this for an example of what we in the UK think of when we see acrolites on ebay
