Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

The best part? They ALWAYS bitch that my sticks are "too big". I use standard vic 5b. Nothing fancy.

Re: Denting drumheads

Recently I threw a spare snare head in the car for a gig... Pretty haphazardly, unfortunately; couldn't figure out what I did with the box. Anyway, I was so un-careful that I accidentally allowed my...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Probably a newbie is my guess. Early on in your drumming you're a lot more stuck and less flexible with the ways you remember and write parts. I usually tell those guys they should bring their own....

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

Isn't this song more of a 3 or 6? Putting it faster? It's pretty waltzy and I've always played with that feel instead of slow 4.

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Seems maybe a bit rude to backline with smaller than a 4-piece and not tell the other drummers ahead of time. I've never heard anyone complain the standard 4 piece is too small, but even though I'd...

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

Yea, that's kinda why I mentioned Type O. Not only are the QN BPM numbers often low, the amount of time between notes in some of the songs is really cool. They don't tend to stuff a bunch of notes...

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

One of the things I always liked most about type o negative was how slow some of the songs are.

I just tapped out "Love you to death" and it came in at quarter note around 55bpm. Less than one...

Re: Bass drum technique

Very well said. Something I keep seeing is people who get "stuck" on one way of doing things and they end up severely limiting their palate for sounds or working much harder than they need to to...

Re: Retro Drum Pics

I could totally see a monogram Louis Vuitton over the shoulder carrying bag for that drum too.

Re: Retro Drum Pics

I'm sure that cute little bass drum can pull some hotties too. Like walking a miniature breed dog in the park. Seriously, put a little sweater on that bass drum and they'll be all over it.

Re: Birthday & New Year's gigs?

Just one I think. I wasn't a fan, and wanted to be partying with everyone.

Same with birthdays, I usually try to take those off. That said, many, many birthdays have devolved into un-planned jam...

Re: YOUR BETTER AT BECAUSE OF DRUMS

I don't even typically hear them as words most of the time. Lyrics in my head just get converted to their melodic note progressions and essentially get treated like another instrument. You could...

Re: Retro Drum Pics

I was thinking you needed me to explain what a sweater is, assuming you're from the accented side of the ocean. But it says you're a yank, too.

For those who are on the less-trumped-up side of...

That bass drum is absolutely adorable. I just want to put a little sweater on it.

Re: Why have I suddenly forgotten a kick drum technique?

Very simple. Slow the tempo of your metronome until you CAN do whatever is eluding you. Work at that speed. Once mastered slow, then speed it up a bit.

You'll be back in shape in no time.

"A...

Re: Do your doubles sound like singles?

No.

All you have to do is practice. People just don't focus enough on dynamic control, but they could, and should. It's not that hard, actually. With doubles, the key is to get your finger...

Re: Do 3/4 and 6/8 ‘flow’ better for you?

Provided everyone has the proper permits and underground pipe research done.

Re: Do 3/4 and 6/8 ‘flow’ better for you?

A 6/8 is nothing more than a slow 4/4 but the "slow" feeling of it compared to the same in 4/4 is what makes it seem easier and more natural to play... There really is more space to mess with and...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

Right, but I noticed that the two versions bare little resemblance to one another. It's pretty safe to say that the drums are pretty busy on both, as well. My head is still treating them like...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

I find it odd that the dudes who write a song could ever be accused of overplaying that song... Like, really odd.

Re: Curious about tuning to actual notes

I guess it's cool to have your own standards, but unlike say a guitar where for the most part you can pick any up and it's tuning will be in the usual a440 ballpark standard tuning, when I sit at one...

Re: Yoyoka's back (she's 9 now)

You can tell by how much fun they have.

Kids who get forced to play and instrument tend to play it with perfect posture, attention and discipline. Their parents enforce strict rules and practice...

Re: Curious about tuning to actual notes

I just like one that goes boing and one that goes bong.

... At the end of the day, I really only require the bong.

You're one of my hero figures and I certainly look up to how you conduct yourself. I couldn't be happier at the news. I did know it was coming.
