Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Opinions?

I have two USA kits, and they are stellar. With that said, I tend to use my Pearl MCX snare for everything. PP snares are just really loud to my ears, so I go with the Pearl for now.

Never...

Re: Crazy?

Sorry, my drums sing and punch you in the gut all the while making you want to dance. This is some crazy ninja-swami-guru crap happening right here.

I have no regrets.

Re: non-specific criticism

Here are several things to consider:

1. If the singer who is normally complimentary thinks something is amiss, I'd pay attention. With that said, the singer needs to be more specific in what...

Re: Is Guitar Center changing?

Sounds like a cost-effective plan.

I think that sometimes folks give GC employees a hard time because "they don't seem to know what they're talking about." I've been playing music a long time,...

Re: Tempo Ref

Not to derail this thread to badly, but I watched a documentary on Morissey. He only communicates via fax. Seriously.

Why? Because Morissey.

Re: Is Guitar Center changing?

The closest GC to me in NC opened not too long ago. Decided to drop by (it's still an hour drive away).

Smallest GC I've ever been in. It's just one big room with a few extra corners. There are...

Re: Best budget recording drums

Not to put words or answers into Wicked's mouth, but a lot of times whenever a person is charged with purchasing equipment for a larger entity, then the purchaser oftentimes HAS to buy new because...

Re: The magic of a simple kit

Yup. When I first started, I had a 3-up/1-down set up, and I ended up (at one time) with hats, a ride, two crashes, two chinas, and three splashes. The more I played, the more I started leaving...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

I used to be pretty darn quick with the Tama pedal that came with my rockstars back in the early 1990s.

For a while, I was quicker with it than I was with my DW 9000.

Looked just like this. ...

Re: A re-statement of the obvious

I came here after getting kicked off another forum. The sole moderator runs too tight of a ship over there, and I like it here much better. The mods here are just loose enough to keep the ideas...

Re: How do you pack and ship cymbals?

Sweet! Glad you are enjoying it. :)

Seriously though, I wonder if you could buy something like a pool noodle, cut the length to the circumference of the cymbal, and then slit it for the edge...

Re: Anyone ever regret wrapping a drum set?

Thanks for your replies!

I think I'm going to keep it as-is.

With that said, I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for that kit online to see if it pops up anywhere.

I don't know...that...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Guilty as charged! I used to be Captain Caveman in my last rock band. Not anymore!

Here's some great words from Todd Sucherman. This link should lead you to the part where it addresses the...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

I don't know, I have a hard time critiquing things that a drummer mounts his/her equipment or even equipment choices. I'm all for "right tools for the right job."

If a drummer feels that a song...

Re: How do you pack and ship cymbals?

I just make sure the shipping label doesn't cover the stamp on the cymbal. When I ship, I also write "Fragile" in sharpie on the bottom so than no one will see it whenever they mount it on the...

Re: My BumWrap Journey. Rewrapping 35+ Year old Pearl Exports

I felt the same way about my Pearls whenever I did all of that work. Probably just one of those things that I'd have never noticed if I hadn't worked so intensely on it. Great job BTW! Love that...

Re: Very high pitch snare sound

Find one of those Pearl 13 x 3 piccolo snare drums. They can usually be had for about $100. That should do the trick.

Re: My BumWrap Journey. Rewrapping 35+ Year old Pearl Exports

I wanted to clean up old hardware, so a friend of mine suggested I use 0000 steel wool and 3-in-1 oil to clean hardware and I had great results. It was easy, and no scrubbing needed. I've got a...

Re: My BumWrap Journey. Rewrapping 35+ Year old Pearl Exports

I think BumWrap is an excellent solution for cheap wrap for an old kit. I used them a few times, and I'd do it again.

Too bad at the time I didn't know about CompactDrum's cheaper-than-Del-Mar...

Re: Allan Dawson on an acrylic Fibes bopkit?

I have a deep respect for people who play this kind of music.

With that said, I can't count anything in this because of my (a) simple mind and (b) rock-and-roll background/foundation.

Hats off...

Re: Looking for Jazz Drum Set

With the right heads and tuning, you should be able to make the Exports work IMO.
