Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

A great song.

Yes, they had some slow ones.

But What it comes down to subdividing.

Playing 16th notes at 50 bm is playing more than playing quarter notes at 70

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Current drum trends you wish would go away:

Drummers complaining about other drummer's just because they are different.

Seriously.....

Re: Is Guitar Center changing?

They did announce a few months back certain locations were getting a major overhaul in the drum department.

Some stuff is location specific.

I live (near) equal distance from a few different...

Re: Trigger Controlled Light Show?

It's been done.

Any trigger system that puts out midi (which would be most of them) could be routed to a midi light controller.

And I'm sure there are other ways to do it.

A google search...

Re: First post...input on determining lefty or righty setup?

There are no rules.

Whatever works for you.

There are some drummers that play right and left depending on the song, or the part, or their mood.

Re: Anyone just play drums for themselves only?

The vast majority of drums and musical equipment, in general, are bought by people who have zero intention of gigging.

Most musicians are in bands that consist of themselves and their four walls....

Re: Concert style tom's

I've never tried it myself, but I've seen that done.

Larry Mullen Jr used to do that in the early/mid 80's

Re: quality of drum sounds to the rest of the band is not important

Outside of the volume issue, you are quite right.

I've seen countless bands where the drummer was playing drums with dead heads, untuned drums, lousy cymbals, etc, and the band, for the most...

Re: I wonder if Neil Peart will ever play again?

Anytime I see old footage of his 70's era kit, and I do wonder how he ever played that thing smoothly. Economics wasn't even considered.

But regardless of which kit he used, you're right, every...

Re: Double bass setup?

This.

And the few drummers who do you use different sizes, it's not noticeable.

I saw Mike Mangini with Dream Theater when he was using 4 bass drums, a 26" 2 22" and an 18".

From the...

Re: Space Aliens at the local bar

It is IMHO.

I tried to attend one my buddy's gigs. I mean, trying to navigate 400+ songs without a setlist has to be something to see, right?

After about 20 minutes, I wanted to shoot myself....

Re: Space Aliens at the local bar

Yes, a drummer buddy does this one night a week for probably a year now

Similar setup, drums, two guitars, singer. The karaoke machine supplies the bass, keys, a click to the drummer, and the...

Re: Do your doubles sound like singles?

The only person I've ever seen in person make doubles and singles sound identical is Vinnie at a clinic many years ago.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's difficult.

Just my opinion...

Re: I wonder if Neil Peart will ever play again?

Long before he retired, I am pretty sure Neil posted on his blog how he didn't have a set at home, and if he wanted to practice, he would drive up to the DW facility in Oxnard.

So I doubt that's...

Re: YOUR BETTER AT BECAUSE OF DRUMS

Very interesting topic!

Some years ago I stumbled upon the chance to write some music for a movie (a direct to DVD low budget thing, nothing super fancy).

And even though the music itself had...

Jackson is passed Zep in record sales worldwide.

Though not in USA only sales.

Context is always key.

For example, in the US, Garth Brooks has outsold Elvis in terms of albums, but not...

Re: Analogue to digital - the journey begins.

Based on the title I thought for a second Andy was announcing he was giving up his Guru's for a Roland E-kit.

Good to know I was wrong!
