Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

Another vote for those bloody keys players and singers.

Also: string players to accompany a rock/pop band. I found a lot of cello, viola, violinists etc quite snobby about popular music and to be...

Re: Can you practice buzz roll on a drumpad?

They can be a little bit more difficult but if you can get buzzes sounding and feeling good on a pad, they should be a walk in the park when you come to play them on an actual...

Re: Drummers who don't use cymbal stoppers

I've got more than an inch or so of thread sticking out...

Re: Recurring dream - drum related

I once dreamt that I practiced really hard for six hours. That was the dream. Just me working from New Breed, cleaning up my rudiments, playing along to songs etc.
Woke up and realised that the day...

Re: Al Jackson jr break in Turn You Loose. . . sounds simple . . .

Yeah, the horns are hitting the off beats (one AND two AND three AND four AND)

Keep a strong sense of the quarter note through that bit and it should come together fairly easily :)

Re: Orchestrate phrases around the set - Jazz

The real question is: do you want to master exercises in a book or be able to play music with people? What good is being able to tell people you've mastered the one-bar phrases in Art of Bop Drumming...

Re: Special technique for backbeats?

I agree that they're almost certainly playing rimshots. In my opinion, that's the technique you really want to be looking into and experimenting with if you want to replicate the gospel chops...

Re: Double bass drum ankle motion speed

You need to train your feet to work together so they actually alternate and form a single stroke roll. It sounds like a mix between a coordination problem and a bit like a "how fast can you hear?"...

Re: Help with Green Day Song? (When I come around)

That fourth bass drum note should land on the "e" of beat 2 (1e&a2e...) Same with beat 4 as well (3e&a4e...)

If that's what you're playing and it doesn't sound right, it could be your technique...
