Re: intermittent drumming and severe wrist pain

intermittent drumming and severe wrist pain

Here's my situation and I'm not sure what to do now:

I'm 43, small boned/petite...5'3"
I drum with my band once per week for 2 hours
I don't practice in between
I didn't stretch before...

Tennis elbow, wrist pain, sore forearm muscles

I've been drumming 2 hours with my band every 1-2 weeks. Last week we started off with a song that I played 16th notes on the hit hats with, and jammed through it 2-3 times. Throughout the meaty...

Yamaha Oak Custom snare vs. Black Panther Birdseye

I've been playing my BP maple birdseye and wish it had more crack and body and no matter which heads or tuning I use, I just don't get it. Ideally, I'd have a deeper snare to get what I want but...

not liking my Black Panther Birdseye 5.5x14

I got this maple snare before I knew what I wanted, and it's actually not what I want. I like deeper, drier snares, and have tried different heads but no luck getting this to sound like a 6.5 deep...

Re: Tama Silverstar jazz vs. Gretsch Catalina Club jazz

I've heard the 'vintage sound' phrase a lot.but not sure exactly what that is. Could you describe?

Tama Silverstar jazz vs. Gretsch Catalina Club jazz

I've played the Gretsch and like the sound, but haven't yet had a chance to try out the Tama. I hear it's better sounding, has better hardware. The Gretsch is mahogany but the cheap mahogany. ...

Re: loudest 18/12/14 kit?

My typo...didn't meant to say 'loudest' because I'm looking for a good, warm punch but not necessarily the loudest thing out there (otherwise, I'd keep my Oaks!).

Yes, a smaller kit to...

13" snare opinions/options

I've got a 5.5x14 Black Panther Birdseye Maple snare and as much as I thought I'd love it, I don't.

I'm looking for a deeper, fatter, dryer tone and I can't seem to get it with this. I've tuned...

loudest 18/12/14 kit?

I want to get a smaller kit. Currently, I've got Yammie Oaks 20/16/12 and want to get an 18/12/14 (or 10 rack). Someone told me the Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz is good but I haven't heard it in...

Oak Custom 20" kick vs. 18" kick (oak or maple)

I'm wanting to downsize my 20/12/16 kit to an 18/12/14. My Oak Customs have a great punch with depth and projection.

Could it be a safe bet to go down to an 18" kick, either Oaks again or Maple...

to drum or not to drum

I've been contemplating a switch to bass because I live in an apartment building so my kit is not in the basement, work a lot, have very little time to get to my studio to practice regularly and...

Manu Katche kit for rock?

Would it be insane to think this sized kit (16kik, 10&12rack, 13floor) for a rock situation (standard 4 piece band)?

I have an opportunity to get one for CAD500, and am trying to downsize from my...

drum size downsizing

I've got Yammie Oaks 20/16/12 and am thinking of downsizing (for rock, small bars or cafes) for the sake of having smaller gear to pack and lug around and store. I'm also pretty small and don't like...

small kit with big sound?

I downsized from a 22/16/13 to 20/16/12 and am loving having a smaller kit. I chose Oak Customs because it sounded bigger than other kits the same size.

Now I'm curious about downsizing even...

Chad Smith vs. brass Sensitone snares?

I'm looking for a warmer but more importantly, a very responsive snare with enough body for rock and not tons of ringing (i know all of this can be subjective, but generally speaking...) and don't...

Re: need tips for making my Birdseye Black Panther more responsive

yes, 3.0mm die cast hoops...

i've liked the warmth of wood snares but based on the feedback, it sounds like i should go to steel. had no idea steel snares were typically more responsive than...

would you use a 13x5 snare for rock?

I listened to some Omar Hakim YouTubes and liked the sound (originally inspired by seeing an ad selling one) and am wondering if that snare or one that size would give enough body for rock.

Any...

need tips for making my Birdseye Black Panther more responsive

I love how the Chad Smith is so responsive and I'm trying to get that out of my 5.5x14 Birdseye BP but can't.

I've tuned it high, used Coated Ambassadors, Controlled Sound, Genera Dry, Etched, but...

replace my Birdseye Black Panther?

I'm satisfied with my Black Panther but am curious about other snares that have a bit more 'snap' and are more sensitive. I like wood over metal and would LOVE a Pearl Reference 5x14 but don't quite...

easiest way to record rehearsals?

this may be a little off topic for 'technique' but in order to improve my technique, i like to record rehearsals to listen to parts that need improvement.

i've been using a Sony MZ R900 minidisc...
