Re: General Setup / Positioning on a kit

I have an Offset pedal and tried the symmetrical kit layout for a while to address the 'positioning/orientation' issue. However, I didn't find it enough of a difference to merit sticking with it. I...

Re: Odery custom drums...WOW!

I checked them out at winter NAMM '07- they're some of the most beautiful drums I've ever seen. Really nice craftsmanship.

Re: Touring/Live Drummers- what's in your monitors?

I prefer IEMS, but in a pinch floor wedges will do. I like a little bit of everything except drums in my mix.

Re: Drumming with one arm?

I don't know about improvement so much, but I've been exploring this lately so I can play keys with my left hand. It definitely makes you think about your approach and dexterity as it relates to one...

Re: Portnoy's Mirage Monster

huh, must be the way he tunes it or something-
I saw Muse a few months back, and the Tama Mirage kit sounded incredible- plenty of warmth and huge resonance, they sounded great. So many variables...

Re: DRUM! or Modern Drummer?

they both have the same info and interviews pretty much, I find. Usually a month or two apart if we're lucky. I like them both. I guess I should like DRUM! more as they put me in it once.

My...

Re: Improvisational Drumming

I like to say my band 'prepares to be spontaneous.' We leave sections of songs 'open' for interpretation and experiment each time, but I think the 'improvisations' are based on things you already...

Re: Po Boy Hammered Bronze Snare?

I think the 12" might have been a short run.
He does a copper too, in several sizes. I've got a 14x6.5" and it is quite tasty. It's not quite as much of a crotch-rattler as the hh bronze though....

Re: Po Boy Hammered Bronze Snare?

I have the 12" hh bronze Po Boy snare and it is one of my all-time favs. It is one powerful little snare. I've got the 14" version on order.

I've got 6 other snares from them, and they're all...

Re: Mixing at the kit....

wish I could help, but I use Mac/Logic. I'm not sure if ProTools let you interface with non-proprietary hardware (I would hope so.) I thought I had read that it doesn't, but I hope that's not true....

Re: Mixing at the kit....

if it's primarily for recording, how about a Firewire mixer or interface? If you're going to have that many mics, why not be able to multi-track them, rather than having to submix to 2 tracks? ...

I think Hornets might give some of the same benefits, though the concept is a little different

Re: This drumset is very weird

there's a guy on another forum who uses a floor tom for his snare.
I think he calls it 'the Hulk.'

Re: Tom arrangements

I believe Bill Bruford says his configuration makes it difficult/impossible to do the big/long descending cliche fill, so he's fine with that.

I'm trying it on my 5 pc, because I like a center...

Re: Best Low Volume Snare Drum

it's all well and good to learn to play lighter and use brushes or rods, but that doesn't just change the volume, it changes the tone too. Rock and funk isn't quite the same w/ brushes/rods, ya...

Re: multitrack recording help

most people in that situation use a small mixer to submix them, then send that 2-track submix to the recorder. There are tons of decently-priced small mixers out there these days.

I've been doing some research before buying a firewire interface, and was just about to snag a Firepod, but happened to read that it's not supporting the Mac Leopard OS yet; so I'm searching for a...
