Re: Hour Lessons *

HA! I wish!! I hardly do the 45s, but I do feel like that's the perfect amount of time for most older kids. Btw this is assuming you meant the 15 minute gaps might leave me a lot of free time

Re: Poor man's moongel?

I'm more referring to the guys who smother their heads in gaff tape. A bit that isn't sloppily put on ain't bad. Don't know about the guy in the 2nd pic but I assume that any gig where a jean vest is...

Re: Headphones/Earphones for studio?

For studios, the biggest thing for a performer is having something that won't bleed into the recording.

For this reason, even though it may seem tacky, a lot of big name engineers I've worked...

Re: "Appropriate Finishes"

Sometimes people won't care about your instrument's finish, they'll accept that it's your instrument.

However, If I'm going to be spending money on something that's going to possibly make a good...

Re: Anyone using GAFFERS tape for dampening heads?

Gaffers tape doesn't cut down on as many overtones as moongel because it's lighter and less sticky. This might be what you want, but unless you have a roll of Gaffers tape lying around, I'd say just...

Re: Cymbals Crack But I'm a Soft Hitter?

Could bad technique be a part of it? Yes, if you are hitting "through" the cymbal as opposed to rebounding off of it or glancing it.

Everyone is saying you ain't a soft hitter. Hitting hard won't...

Re: Poor man's moongel?

Occasionally moongel/any other dampening is necessary (though NEVER past certain degrees where the drumhead is more duct tape than mylar!).

Duct tape is the poor man's moongel but if you live in...

Re: Hour Lessons *

For little kids up to maybe 10, 30 minutes max. I prefer 45-60 minute lessons for older kids who have the attention spans to handle it.

First half of the lesson spent on...

Re: Snare Position

I agree that having the snare angled so much while it is set up relatively low to the waist can't be the best, most efficient way of playing. Some ways of snare set up are subjective or dependent...

Re: Hello!!!

I saw all those sections after I posted this and realized "oops shoulda posted there"

And yep I'm not a big "I NEED CYMBALS EVERYWHERE!!!" guy. Hi hat, 2 crashes, a ride that can be crashed, and...

Re: my rudiments suck, have I missed out the fundemental part of being a drummer?

Who said that playing rudiments was more important than playing music?

Even the unschooled drummers applied rudiment based patterns in their playing. If youre arguing that rudiments are a waste...

Re: what size crash?

Well size doesn't matter as much as thick/thinness when it comes to jazz. Plenty of jazz guys play bigger crashes, plenty play smaller crashes, the common denominator though is that most are thin...

If you tell a guitar center guy you plan on spending $2000 on a kit he will be your servant for the rest of the day I guarantee you that....unless he's lazy, which is always a possibility at GC....in...

Re: To lesson, or not to lesson

I doubt he has bad technique. You seem to have a great opportunity to learn from a great player, take it! If your technique is good already (and you know what good technique is), then you shouldn't...

Re: my rudiments suck, have I missed out the fundemental part of being a drummer?

The most fundamental part about being a drummer is having fun while hitting things and expressing creativity, so if you've got that you're on the right track.

That being said, practicing...
