Price range is low. We'd rather spend the money on instruments or other music stuff but especially when playing a gig at a party or any other place wich doesn't have any sort of stage lighting. So...

I think you mean that they have there toms horizontal. so more like the snare then the bass.
I have mine pretty horizontal too now and I like it. It could be that hitting down is easier then hitting...

If I can give my opinion try to get nikkel hardware or another more special and a bit less shiny colour hardware. It would get all the attention of the painting.
