Re: Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos

Recently saw them live - obviously awesome as always. The songs from this album were really HEAVY live (loved those creepy ants...). But WHY didn't they play "Forsaken"? Thought it was one of the...

The Flower Kings - The Sum of No Evil

What are your thoughts about Zoltan Csörsz drumming on this album? I think he's a great progressive drummer with a certain "jazzy" feel. Sometimes I find myself longing for just a little more DB...

Re: 10 great progressive drummers

I must admit I have only listened to Bruford from this list. Better do my homework... ;-)

BTW I've realized I have to add five names to my list - after all prog is my favourite genre at the...

Re: 10 great progressive drummers

Jason Rullo is his name (except for one album, "Twilight in Olympus" on which Tom Walling plays the drums).

September 28th I'll be watching him and Symphony X warming up the stage before Dream...

Re: Metal Drummers

Some of my favorite metal drummers:

Ulrich (The reason I got hooked on drums - "Justice" is imho a drum masterpiece, albeit with a terrible sound)
Jörg Michaels (Stratovarius)
Colaiuta (Megadeth...

Re: Your First Show

My first gig was also in a church - we played for a small audience, as an opening act for another, more "mature" band (included a horn section).

I hadn't played for very long at the time - didn't...

Re: 10 great progressive drummers

Jack de Johnette a progressive drummer (in the prog-rock sense)? He is surely one of my favorite jazz drummers (mostly heard - and once saw - him play with Keith Jarrett). Are you referring to his...

Since the "10 grooviest..." thread gave me many "missed" drummers to check out, I thought I'd post a list with 10 of my favourite prog-drummers (that I have on CD - still haven't heard an entire...

10 minutes daily rudiment practice - any recommendations?

Just started practicing rudiments daily again (as opposed to "just" rehearsing/gigging with the cover band I'm playing in), trying to sit at least 10 mins/day.

I just know a few basic rudiments...

Re: 10 grooviest drummers

Oops, forget what I wrote about not having heard JR - just found out he's the drummer on "We are the world" - and the one behind that mean "I'm so excited" - beat (always wondered who that was, had a...

Re: 10 grooviest drummers

I thought about Garibaldi, but only have "Back on the streets" by TOP and it was a long time since I last listened to it. Remember that I really liked "soul vaccination" when I first heard it. Better...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

Hi there,

I have a question for those of you who recognize Vinnie's (and Katchés) playing - who plays on which track on Stings "Brand new day"? Been looking all over the net for info, but haven't...
