Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

Well, my comment was featured in Glenn's new video. I got a good laugh out of it, but my point/opinion still stands.

I thought I'd share because so many of you had differing opinions on his drum...

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

Glenn contacted me on Facebook this morning (we've been Facebook friends for a few weeks). He's a really down-to-earth guy, just to set the record straight. He said that the shouting is for...

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

I understand *some* of what he's saying. However, a lot of it is just plain wrong. Rim shot blast beats? You gotta be kidding me. I guess that's the "joking" part lol.

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

The thing is, I kinda think he's serious. It's hard to tell if he's hardcore trolling, or if he really is full of shit.

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

You hit the nail on the head. And to me, I think this shows us his weakness as an engineer. If he can't handle recording a moderate sized kit, set up comfortably for the drummer, then why is he doing...

Re: Mixers with built in compression

Just get a focusrite Saffire Pro 40. You'll get excellent mic pres and you can do all of the mixing and eq/comp/gating/reverb/etc inside the DAW of your choice.

Re: SJC Maple/Acrylic hybrid drums

Thanks guys for getting back to me. I'm already very aware of how these endorsements... "endorsements" work... I wanted an SJC kit and I just saw the endorsement as a way to save a little cash, not a...

Re: SJC Maple/Acrylic hybrid drums

OOPS I misread that.. that scares me a bit. I already have a DW maple kit and a PDP maple kit so this one is just for looks and fun more than anything. I'm going with SJC because I got a 35%-off...

Re: Miking bass drum WITH port for first time. Tips where to start?

I experimented with my D112 last night. I want to first point out that it's one of my favorites on a floor tom, it gets the most natural floor tom sound to my ear (d6 close behind). But on a kick it...

Re: New Dream Theater Album Stream

I think part of that transition to a heavier sound was, in part, to attract more fans and broaden their musical spectrum. I do like the more progressive approach to this album. Mangini is capable of...

Re: What is required?

Like MDJ said, get a good teacher. This is critical. I was mediocre until I found my current teacher 2 years ago. Since then my snare playing has really improved as well as my performance on the kit....
