Re: What's your latest purchase?

Picked up a Meinl Byzance Extra Dry 19" thin crash... Oh damn, this thing plays like butter, and is surprisingly loud for an Extra Dry.
Happy Birthday to me.

Re: Mark Guiliana on Bowie's Blackstar

Huge fan of this album. I can't get enough of that groove on Girl Loves Me. It's damn fine playing!

Re: Eric Carr KISS miniature replica Crazy Nights drum set

My god man, this is amazing!

If I didn't know any better, I'd say I was watching the making of a real kit.

Re: Do you use a cowbell?

I changed my tune a while back, and picked up a fairly small LP cowbell. I mounted it on one of those Gibraltar pedal mounts, and have it to the left of my hi-hat. Iron Cobra Rolling Glide runs the...

Re: Counting my blessings

Larry's got it right, this place is awesome!

I wish I knew more drummers in real life, because I can never actually talk gear with anybody else. Well, my girlfriend makes a surprising amount of...

Re: Another controversial Mortnoy story?

From what I can gather, it looks like they wanted to play, yeah, but this information says nothing about whether or not they were actually ON the bill, as previously mentioned.

That being said, if...

Re: Brand new kit with "factory" flaws!!!

I had a really awesome Pork Pie vented Little Squealer snare a few years back, but within 2 months of ownership, the plies had begun to delaminate. You could see the glue and everything, so this was...

Re: Why do high end drums cost orders of magnitude less than high end pianos?

Can't really argue with this logic... But honestly, I know diddly-squat about pianos. Couldn't say.

Re: DW Gear Swap

Oh the temptation.

I have an 18" Byzance Trad. medium thin crash... But as of right now, I only have it and my 18" Sabian Artisan as my only "traditional" sounding crashes... The rest are all...

Re: I've never warmed up before a Gig.

I've never warmed up before a gig, and I honestly don't think I ever will, as my band plays some fairly bluesy classic rock. IMO, there's nothing physically demanding about the stuff I play, hence...

Re: What are you using for practice?

Quiet practise? What's that?
I play my acoustic kit when I'm home, and my practise pad when I'm spending time away from the house.

Re: Compulsion to Buy Something...

For me it's cymbals. I'm perfectly happy with my kit, snares, and hardware, but I'm always craving new sonic palettes when it comes to my bronze.

Re: How were you exposed to drums?

In grade 7 and 8, we had to pick an instrument to learn in school. For financial reasons, my parents made me play the flute, because it was the cheapest instrument to rent. I was always transfixed my...

Re: Help me choose between 3 snare drums....

To my ear, that Yamaha Hybrid is simply gorgeous. The tone, the tuning range, the body... That one does it for me.

Re: Scott K Fish: Would Today's Music Make Me Want to Be a Drummer?

Well I'm a younger guy, and have only been drumming for about 8 years now, so I'd say that today's music has indeed inspired me to be a drummer.

I mean, as eclipse said, pop of any generation...

Re: My grandson's First Act with Mods

Here's some advice: don't put any dampening gel on the drums. Have your grandson learn how to tune, before getting moongel.

Re: child's drum kit recommendations!...

+1 for the Sonor Martini kit here. I think it'd be as small as you can get for a 3 year old, plus it's a quality instrument, all things considered. Maybe consider some of those new Zildjian L80...

Re: A tale of pride, patience, redemption...and linear triplets

I can't blame you. Those comments would have eaten away at me, I think. Learning linear triplets was one thing I did early on in my drumming career, if for nothing more than they were the "Best metal...
