Re: Drumset with a +- 2000 Budget

With that budget, and assuming you're in Europe, you may want to have a look at Sonor's Prolite series as well.

Re: Looking For Best Drumset with cymbals!

A recent, current model Yamaha Stage Customs with used Zildjian Ks, like the Custom Hybrids, and you're set for anything.

Have fun!

Re: Yamaha signature snare drums

Thanks I had never actually seen any of those before! The old Jimbo-one looks to have some quite specific features (shell size, number of lugs). The others, although all great looking (especially the...

Re: Yamaha signature snare drums

Sorry mate, I guess I could have phrased my original note a bit better. The ones that musiqman mentions (like the Ton Dijkman model) were never mentioned on the Yamaha website, and I'm curious as to...

Re: Yamaha signature snare drums

Thanks Scorch and Musiqman,
That international list is pretty much what I thought too; it's that I came across that Wolfgang Haffner somewhere (a 13" x 6" maple I believe) that made me wonder how...

Re: Yamaha signature snare drums

Thanks, that's about as far as I got too... That must have been the final collection, just before they discontinued all of them.. It's the older ones that mainly interest me: the early Peter Erskine...

Yamaha signature snare drums

Does anyone here have a complete list of the signature snare drums that Yamaha marketed over the years? I know there have been quite a few, also some rather obscure, local market-driven ones, but a...

Re: Who does this, really?

Perhaps money isn't the measure of everything. A kit may be cheap, but resources were sacrificed to build it. I think we have a responsibility to look after our belongings, no matter their monetary...

Re: Value of a Yamaha Maple Custom Snare?

Probably about 15 years old. I believe the next version (Maple Custom Absolutes) were introduced around 2002 - 2003.

The MSD-0104 came standard with diecast hoops, not triple-flanged ones.

Re: Value of a Yamaha Maple Custom Snare?

Hi there,

That looks like an MSD-0104, the earlier Maple Custom series. Great drum, and I would think 300 Euros would be a reasonable price if the drum is in good condition.

You don't see those...

Re: Multiple Kit Owners, Show Your Favorite Kit

Not sure how many people are in the enviable situation where they have multiple really nice kits like yourself... I have two kits, but one is a Stage Custom and the other one a Recording Custom, so...

Nice drums! Have you tried Aquarian Studio-X coated? I have them on my RCs and am really happy with them.

Re: Intermediate drum set advice

Get yourself a used Yamaha Stage Custom, preferably in a tradeable and versatile 10/12/14/20 configuration. If possible get one without a snare drum, they're not the best. Instead find an Acrolite,...

Re: Pearl Vision VBA shell pack

Don't worry, I didn't get it right the first iteration! But looking back after numerous buys and sells I do think the sequence makes sense..

BTW my first purchase after the e-kit was a snare, and...

Re: Pearl Vision VBA shell pack

I spent years away from drumming, and then some time on an e-kit. Only the last 3-4 years I've been back into acoustics, but IMO that has been sufficient time to come up with this sequence of...

Re: Pearl Vision VBA shell pack

Spending $400 on a kit that is 2 years old and retails new for $599 is not a good deal.

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

"Oops" from Steps Ahead's 1984 album "Modern Times". It's been 30 years and I still haven't figured it out... But it's an awesome tune from a classic album.

Re: Yamaha Phoenix (PHX) Drums

Nothing wrong with copying Steve Jordan's set up, whatever works for Jim. If I had the money I'd probably end up with something similar!
