Re: Straightening push/pull

I've only been learning push/pull the last 6 months so I've never really used it in a straight feel, occasionally in 16th ghosts notes but mainly for rolls.
For practice it's better to find a tempo...

Re: CUBASE 5 Linking Lanes

At least in Protools you can copy/paste the inserts and effects from one track to another. If that isn't possible you can always create a preset.

Entered Music School this year and I feel that my overall sound, dynamics, levels, power is coming to a next stage, I feel I sound great, which I never did before.
Also my technique is more...

Re: Hit like a girl

Lately I've been thinking about this subject. Everytime I see a girl play their playing seems light and weak, their strokes don't have the weight and well, violence, of male players and I think it's...

Re: Drum tone/mixing for studio purposes

Oh, for a premix that's a really nice sound.
I'm a little biased because I love deep bassy tom sounds but if you want to stay away from the bass guitar domain I would recommend EQing to higher...

Re: Good glitch beat songs, or even better, drummers?

Chris Clark uses loads of glitchy drum loops, I think he records little segments of live drumming and rearranges them in crazy ways.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Try the live version of "Cheating the Polygraph" were Gavin plays on the rims to cut through the guitars, super effective part (and awesome song also).

Re: What good is a drummer if he can't keep time?! :-(

A good exercise I've heard from several drummers is to make yourself a click track (you can use fruity loops or a drum machine for that) and program it to play say 4 bars of click and 4 bars of...

Re: Blisters On Fingers From Drumming...?

Jojo Mayer explains in his dvd that you get blisters and calluses from bad technique, I've found that hard hitting, especially with a tight grip causes blisters and can damage your hands/wrists....

I really haven't logged in in quite a while but I have to share my good feelings.

Re: playing other people's kits

It's really nice to be able to play in almost every situation.. when I spent lots of time setting up my teacher reminded me that I'd never have everything rightly setup when a kit is not mine.

Re: Loudest snare drum ever?

I really don't believe it to be the loudest, but I play a Mapex standard 10x5.5 stainless steel snare and it screams incredibly loud, I'm guessing it's the steel but I didn't expect it to be that...

Prog-rock is alive!!!

Re: Drums sounds from things that aren't drums.

One really good sound I heard was in a building site, don't know what it was but sounded like concrete hitting concrete, made a really good snare sound. Maybe you can walk around recording that kind...

Re: Hanging up the sticks.

Getting a week or a couple of weeks away from the kit usually helps to clear your mind.
But I recommend another way: get a new cymbal*
In the past months I've been really down, played like crap,...

Re: Some people have no clue!!!

Leaving the challenge of playing a song that's not your own exactly note-for-note aside, when I play covers, it's mostly for untrained ears who just wanna have fun, I prefer to groove if I'm not...

Re: snare stand forr tom-tom

I've used it to set up my kit with everything closer to me, for small gigs. I've found that the floor tom allows more resonance, I think it's because the shell is less stressed compared to "hanging"...

Drummy stuff in China?

I'm going to China tomorrow and since I heard the mapex factory is there (or Taiwan, can't remember) I'd like to know what other drum-realted things are there to be found?

Tama Starphonic?

I just went to the Tama website and I found an extreme amount of advertisment of a Starphonic thingy. Did some search and all I could found was a speculation thread in another forum.

Re: who does your favorite drum solo?

I'm not a big drum solo fan but recently I watched the Slipknot "Disasterpieces" DVD were joey performs an amazing solo, it's not just technically great but the show he builds around it is awesome.
