Re: Band at the wrong gig. Full report - videos & photo's

Is that a 57, or a 58 with the ball taken off on the Laney cab?

I noticed you're smiling. That's awesome and really important.

Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

"Do they draw a crowd?" doesn't necessarily reflect whether or not they will book a band, it reflects whether or not the band needs to be booked in tandem with a draw act or not.

Rock clubs want a...

Re: Yamaha Stage Custom Vs OCDP Venice Vs PDP Concept Maple

Just a friendly reminder not to forget that buying used is always worth investigating. You'll either end up with a better kit for the same money, or save enough money to buy a nice cymbal.

Re: New Gretsch Renown Birch

Dag. The Renowns are such a nice kit, all this variety is going to be awesome. The owners of bumwraps are gonna get a lot of business if they can match these finishes unless the option toms are on...

Re: The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

I'd have to say yes.

Musicians at the time both saw their playing as being full of gimmicks. For me, both of them represent the analogous transition from block-letters to cursive, from pencil...

Re: Nuggets of hard won wisdom

Don't play poker with a guy that has a gold tooth in the front row of his mouth.

Never play billiards for money against a gent that has a nickname referencing his body-weight (Slim, Fat Tony,...

Re: The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

Bermuda, do you have a link to that clip where Al is done-up like Hendrix in Monte Ray and lights his accordion on fire? I remember laughing my ass off at that bit a decade ago and haven't seen it...

Re: The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

In the world of guitar, Hendrix was revolutionary. So you had the guitar before Hendrix (Les Paul, Chet Atkins, the Ventures) and then you had guitar after Hendrix.

I'm probably not qualified...

Re: Tom angles!!!!

I'm sure that hat configuration would work if you used two chinas.

Re: The sound I like

Continue to run your heads wide open. If it really is an issue, investigate your head tuning and top/bottom tension ratio. If you simply want to be diplomatic, you can grab a set of dampening rings...

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

For cymbals:

I've had some luck with GC"s used inventory. The only real benefit is that you can return them if you don't like them and have a local GC. You can search it by brand/type. My...

Re: New Gretsch Renown Birch

On the bright side, At least you can cut down a drum that's too big.

Any idea what a drum shop would charge to remove 2", recut the edge, re-drill the lug-holes?

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

With E-drums hitting the market, and popular culture changing as it is, it's currently a buyers market for used/clearance drum shells. For the $999 of the Catalina Maple, you can literally buy a...

Re: So you're going to a band audition...

In the event you find yourself needing to throw the audition, here's a couple good one-liner's.

1: You guys have such great equipment, you must be rich!
2: Work release won't let me work two...

Re: Snare buzz help - sorry

Are you guys telling me that there are snares out there, that are turned on, but don't buzz when a guitar amp is in close proximity? Do they accomplish this without sounding utterly ridiculous?

Agree'd

People with absolutely no internal sense of timing do exist, but they're about as rare as people with perfect pitch... which is to say, pretty rare. I didn't believe they existed until I...

Re: New Gretsch Renown Birch

I honestly see little difference between this and the Renown Purewood series of years past. There have been some really neat Purewoods in the past.

A new APAC semi-pro kit was expected with the...

Re: DrumMaker.com/Andy Foote - Experience in dealing with them??

Indeed. This is the part of the big poker game where you say "It's been fun gents", and cash out, and go home, and get a good night's sleep.

Closure feels nice.
