Re: Tom angles!!!!

Props to Railroad for coming clean. Takes a real man to self-nominate himself in this category.

Re: 2015 RRHOF inductees. Congrats Ringo!

Lou Reed, really? I know the elitists that run Rolling Stone hail his songwriting genius but the man didn't really have much of an impact on the music scene beyond his very narrow fan base, some of...

Re: Your thoughts on this DW Collector Series kit

That's a lot of money for a 17 year old kit.

Re: Which Snare Wires to Get

I just swapped out the stock wires for Puresound Custom 20's on my Tama 8" deep 40 th Anniversary reissue G-maple. Swapped out the stock reso as well with an Evans Hazy 300, ostensibly the same as...

Re: Tama Starclassic Experts

I'm with Steve B. Your instincts seem spot on. If it smells like a skunk, it probably is.

Re: Anyone else dislike suspension mounts?

Just purchased a DW kit with one rack tom. The STM mount was removed in the first 24 hours. The drum will rest on a snare stand and it flat out looks better without the mount. They're a necessary...

Re: Solid shell snare?

Not to bash DW, I just picked up a new Collector's Series kit that sounds fantastic, but that SuperSolid is indeed an expensive piece of junk. I ordered a SuperSolid Edge (maple/walnut) a few years...

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

Agree wholeheartedly that singing and fronting a band are two different skill sets. Been in bands where the singer couldn't work a crowd at all. Once played with a guy who could sing all the...

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

You're only as good as your lead singer and they're darn near impossible to find where I live. Next would be keys. The good ones are in demand and want work and money immediately. They have no...

Re: Ok, do your worst ;)

Someday this will be the answer to a trivia question--Beatloaf's first guest. Loved it.

Re: Drums suck!

With all this extensive discussion about air vents, I'm shocked that no one brought up the most revolutionary advancement in drum building ever. From the Pearl website:

The Golden Ratio, also...

Re: DW VLT and X-Shells

The kick is likely a VLX. Some discount the SSC cross-grain technology as nothing more than DW marketing gimmicks. Lord knows they have them in spades. I have mixed feelings about the value of this...

Re: Beyond - dynamics - spaces

Musicianship at the highest level. What a great way to start the weekend. Thanks for posting Andy. How does Simon get his toms to sound so consistent through the years regardless of what kit he's...

Re: Good and bad customer service.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I've bought tons of gear over the past two years and only had to deal with two companies' customer service departments: Pearl and Ludwig. Pearl's customer service...

Re: When soundmen attack

Thread title of the year! Earlier this year I worked with a sound guy who asked, politely, if he could stuff something inside my ported kick. Even though I was using a muffled head (SKII) and the...

Not sure whether the Performance drums come with True Hoops, which are standard on the Collectors. They're terrific hoops.

Finish options and the type of cross-grain technology(SSC) employed are the major differences. Cosmetically, the Performance drums use a smaller turret lug. Price of course is the biggest difference.

Re: Craviotto, C&C, Brady, Gretsch, Other?

Yeah, all that money could do a lot of good elsewhere. Get something great but I don't think it's necessary to go top shelf.
