Re: Who uses Moongel?

Moongel on drums or cymbals as the situation dictates. Always take it off.

Re: Retarded left foot - suggestions?

Rock your left foot on 2 and 4 in jazz, as well as anything else you play. It's a good way to get the feel in your foot, and you can start getting into other movements from there.

Thanks to the mp3 Bermuda posted here (http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1309900#post1309900), I've created a note-for-note transcription of Blondie's "Call Me".

Re: Confusion on rolls - open or closed?

I do not consider a closed roll a "buzz" roll in any context, but especially not in orchestral context. If I'm playing a closed roll, I'm doing either 3 or 4 bounces per stroke (assuming the tempo...

Re: Great car for a drummer

I can get a 18x23 DW collectors bass drum in my back seat (in a soft case). Not that I ever use the damn thing, but once in a while it gets dragged out. Top limit of the trunk is an SKB 14" (tall)...

Re: Do I Need A New Drum Teacher?

Everyone needs a drum teacher. Talk to some of the greats and you'll realize that they've all been learning, constantly, throughout their whole career.

Re: Hand percussion drum kit

I make hand contact all the time with a steel when playing timbales, and I consider playing congas in a salsa band or bata in a toque very much a "contact sport" (for lack of a better term).

and...

Re: Brush comping question

I agree with Otto: I'm more about pressure than direction. Honestly, I think most people either go clockwise or counter-clockwise naturally, and while it may be useful to learn both, it's probably...

Re: Universities and Music *sigh*

My opinion: expect the best, plan for the worst. Get ready to pay off $150k in student loans when you're making $35k a year.

Re: Making the most out of limited practice time

I advise people to focus on two things if they have limited practice time. First, warm-up for 5-10 minutes to get your blood moving. Second, pick one pattern/rudiment/whatever you want to work on,...

Re: Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

It's generally better to play, stop, reset, start again over speeding up. Even Stanton Moore thinks so.

Re: Minor "Stick Control" Revision

Interesting article, thanks for posting. I can't really say I agree with updating Stick Control as, for me, I've never considered them incrementing in difficulty from #1-72. I prefer to play them in...

Re: The Clave Police

No, but descendants do complain about it, especially when it is of a religious nature and specific toques (rhythms) go with specific worship traditions.

In fact, there is "original stuff", unless...
