Re: Is it just the generation gap?

Okay...42 years old...25 years paid-playing experience.

I did the "prog-rock" big kit in the early nineties (9-piece, single bass, "symmetrical" with smallest tom to center...could be played left-...

Re: I'm looking for a shell pack with an 18" bass, two rack toms and a floor tom....??

Don't short-sell the Mapex Horizon Birch "big city" setup. For the past few years I've been playing a Saturn Studio kit, but wanted something better for more compact stages.

Picked up the Big...

Re: Mapex Horizon Big City help!!!

The sizes would indicate a "big city" configuration. Mapex uses common names for common size configurations, regardless of line. In the past a person could get the "Studioease" (10/12 toms,...

Re: Rototoms. yay or nay?

After watching and listening to the Stone Temple Pilots in Chicago (2010) on Palladia this weekend, I'm seriously considering experimenting with them again after all these years.

The kit I saw has...

Re: Mapex Orion Help!!

Yes...two are shorter because they sat on top of the stabilizer plate for the tom mount, just like on my Saturns. Get the factory lug replacement pack and replace all four lugs. If the lugs came...

Re: I'd like to know your thoughts!!! Help me out

Nothing that microphones can't fix. Personally, never again will I sacrifice tone for volume.

Re: Custom drums: your thoughts

I would agree with that statement, excluding (and honoring) the shops that literally hammered out their own bodywork, did serious tuning/machining work on engines (flowed/ported their own heads), or...

Re: The lightest "sweet spot"?

Thank you all for the post-bump input. KeepItSimple...that is an incredible kit you posted on YouTube, and it has just the kind of dynamic response I'm looking for.

After my bump-post, I spend...

Re: The lightest "sweet spot"?

bump? No other input? With all of the experience and opinions on this board, there's only one response with only minor input? I thought the knowledgeable on this board would have something to say...

The lightest "sweet spot"?

Hello All...looking for some theoretical/practical input. Right now, this is a thought experiment, but based on what input I get it will lead to the construction of a custom-build drum set.

Re: Is your kit lacquer or a wrap?

Primary kit is lacquer, as Saturns aren't offered in a wrap. I'd love to have the same kit in a wrap, though. Most of my gigs are one-nighters, and four years of wear-and-tear on the kit is...

Re: Anything compare to Mapex Saturns?

Netz...I'd stay away from a response as well if I saw senior members spending more time trolling for a personal flame-war with me than they did actually giving input on a thread. It seems that his...

Re: new pedal guide

The big challenge with this question is that most (likely all) of the retail outlets related to the "big box" shops never have the full range of pro-level pedals in stock and out to demo.

I know...

Re: Drumkit Profit Margins

I worked in sales and management for a larger music retailer back in the early nineties. The biggest retailers got "50-10" or "50-10-10" on high-dollar gear.

Basically, a $1000 MSRP kit would...

Re: Ludwig Zep Set quality

Here in the US, according to most of the online music retailers, the price difference is far in excess of $2000.

Re: Mapex Pro Series Snares?

Pro series is quite different from the Pro-M. Some of these drums can be quite cool. I've played around with piccolos from this series, as well as their brass-shell drums. All quite nice.

Re: thin snare sound in recording - need help...

What you are looking for in a snare sound is likely to require some specific effects...compression and delay in particular.

What we hear as the "body" of the sound of the drum comes a fair bit...

Though I cannot find the most appropriate picture for the thread, who can leave Simon Phillips and his "HMS Phillips" kit out of this discussion. He's used a monster like that, consistently, since...

Re: DDrum Dominion Dorian Amx kit!?

Don't own them...yet...but will. The direct response I've gotten from owners, and the email I received back from tech support lets me know enough to trust the product. Unless something changes...
