Im pretty much like larry. Used to record with no guide but the metronome, once did an entire album (10 songs) in one day.. Luckly, didnt miss a thing.

I don't think its a must but it comes handy...

Couple of times.. On cymbals once (broken after a couple of months) and an iron cobra HP 900, which was used and broke after a few months.. Still was a great price and I got it fixed (still got it)...
