Re: Is it unethical to buy drums made in China?

If you're concerned about making as little negative impact on the planet as possible then why not buy a used kit from somewhere that's as close to you as possible? Just make sure when you go to pick...

Re: Are Ludwig Supraphonics really that good a snare

At the time, used 402s were thin on the ground in my neck of the woods. Unfortunately, in the UK, Ludwigs in general are (in my experience) nowhere near as prevalent as the other big brands these...

Re: The Douchiest Drummers of All Time

Oh, okay - I thought this was going to be another thread about that chap with the big white Mapex kit. Imagine my disappointment . . .

Re: Are Ludwig Supraphonics really that good a snare

Going back to the OP's OP, I played a 400 for the first time last year (after nearly 25 years of drumming) and was also a little disappointed. I then played a 402 and was blown away. I guess that...

Re: Yamaha Japanese made drums

Aquarian manufactures in Mexico. I've yet to have a problem with one of their heads that came out of that country.

Re: Talkin Headz (UK) issues

Avoid that guy like the plague. I know a guy who worked for him when his shop was still open and in the end my friend had to leave because he hadn't been paid for several months.

I shelled out...

Re: Noise complaint filed against me. (Background info included.)

Cheers, that's very kind - sort of surprised to see this thread resurrected: wonder what became of the OP and his predicament . . .

I think what struck me at the time was that there has been an...

Re: Covers vs Originals... Help required !!!

Depends what you mean by "trying new stuff". There's a difference between writing music and playing music. If whoever writes the music in your band has got enough songs for the band to be busy all...

Re: Dog Ownership and Drumming

I don't want to come across as one of those use-the-search-function fascists, but I remember a few threads about dogs' reactions to drumming:

Re: Touring UK rock band w/ international management and agent seek full time Drummer

Currently minimum wage in the UK for those aged 21 and over is 6.19 GBP an hour: naff all, basically. I imagine that disclaimer is just a box to be ticked when one posts an ad. The whole thing looks...

Re: Touring UK rock band w/ international management and agent seek full time Drummer

Just seen the same ad on Starnow (UK casting website). Note the part that says "no pay".

Re: Touring UK rock band w/ international management and agent seek full time Drummer

My thoughts exactly: what's the big mystery? Don't any of these people have names?

I mean, you may as well have made this the advert:

Re: Noise complaint filed against me. (Background info included.)

That's a pretty uncharitable view. Also unrealistic in this economy: when my parents bought the house I grew up in the average price of a house in that part of the UK was about 3 times the average...

Re: Noise complaint filed against me. (Background info included.)

Still found time to chip in, though, eh?

Plenty of "adults" in my estate and others like it in this country have done bugger all to get their houses, especially since half of it is owned by...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Oh, Man - this gets better and better . . . I saw Portnoy play with Dream Theater in London back in 1993 and it was certainly something to get the pulse racing. His latter-day grumpiness has opened...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Whilst I'm sure this would be heresy in some people's books I reckon as long as the toms all have the same heads - or at least the same type of heads - then neither your daughter nor anyone else...

Re: Anthony? :(

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with some Elvin Jones;
Silence the pianos and with [un]muffled drum
Bring out the keyboard, let the drummers come.

Let...

Re: $80 vs $800 metal snare drum

To be fair I think that one has a higher asking price because it was [purportedly] owned by Weckl. According to ebay a used aluminium Weckl snare went for 700USD last October. I'd say that's a fair...

Re: Career advice?

Define "Camden circuit" and "paid gigs". If you're regularly making 100+ a night (each) and are playing places like Barfly and The Roundhouse then fine. If you're occasionally playing The Monarch on...

Re: My dog is some kind of masochist

My TV/canine-sedative practice is nothing too taxing for the brain, just a workout for the hands: typically 10 minutes of 4 stroke ruffs [no pun intended], 10 minutes of single stroke rolls, 10...

My dog is some kind of masochist

Was watching the tennis on TV yesterday and tapping away on a practice pad: my dog came and lay down in front of me, which is not unusual, but because I was distracted by the match I didn't notice...

Re: $80 vs $800 metal snare drum

Sell the Weckl snare and buy a nice wood snare with the money: I have an Akira Jimbo 13X7 beech shell snare with wood hoops that I'm looking to sell.
