Re: Mapex drum set

I agree with the others, it looks like a good deal. I have a Mapex VXB & it's a great sounding kit.

Re: Good quality mid-range snares?

The slight problem is that he's in England, where an Acro will cost about 230. Supras are more like 350 - 400.
They're not as readily available as in the US.

Re: Rock Gigs Not Very Rock Anymore?

Absolutely. Ever seen Stiff Little Fingers at The Barras on St Patricks Day? Unbelievable!

Re: Rock Gigs Not Very Rock Anymore?

You must be going to the wrong gigs! At all the gigs I've been to recently the crowd were rocking.
Mind you, if there had been any hipsters as you described they'd probably have been trampled...

Re: First tuning - opinions please :)

I take it you'd forgotten that roll of tape was on the cymbal?!

Sounds great to me, but (probably a daft question) why the multiple 10" toms?*

Edit: OK, silly me. I've just seen the thread...

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

I'm confused.
What's a time signature? I just hit stuff rhythmically so that it sounds good to me AND the rest of the band.

Re: Rhythm Magazine - Best of British

I hadn't seen that competition. I must have a go!
If necessary, when I get home tonight I can scan the article & post it (if someone hasn't already done it).

Re: Drum company name ideas?

I see you're in Hereford, so if that's where you're going to be making them how about Wye Drums?

Re: What do you think about Casey Cooper (COOP3RDRUMM3R)

YouTube was also responsible for the discovery of Justin Bieber.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Nobody (other than drummers) cares about the differences in drum & cymbal sounds. No-one has ever decided whether they like a band/will buy a record based on the percussion sound.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

When I see lists like "top 50 drummers" I genuinely have no clue who about 45 of them are, & have never knowingly heard them play anything. In fact, I don't know who most drummers are unless they are...

Re: What do you think about Casey Cooper (COOP3RDRUMM3R)

I think it's pretty obvious which member of that band thinks he's the star who everyone has come to see!

Re: Female Drummer Project/Questionnaire

Most of the time the prefix label is totally unnecessary too. I think it's obvious if I'm looking at a female playing drums that she's female, without it having to be pointed out to me. We don't say...

Re: What gear do you see people trying to move the most?

If that's the Maple/Cherry Black Panther that was given away free with the M series kits they are great snares. I have one & it's probably my favourite - in fact, it's in my avatar. I've seen people...

Re: Drumming Idiosyncrasies

Watch off, pockets emptied, short sleeved tee shirt, bandana/beanie on my head (us baldies don't have hair to stop the sweat getting in our eyes), converse trainers, and I'm good to go.

Re: Drums - the stage prop du jour (Grammies content)

A couple of things:

1) If you thought the Metallica/Lang Lang combo was bad at the Grammys, you mustn't have seen the Metallica/Lou Reed combo on Jools Holland. Truly appalling....

Re: UK drummers - open question

This may seem like a silly question, but I'm asking as i genuinely don't know - how often do people get the bearing edge recut? It's something I've never even considered.

I really should read up...

Re: Letting others borrow equipment

I've lent breakables to a friend, but only because I knew he'd take care of them (& we were gigging together). I'd certainly have to think long & hard before lending to someone I don't know, even if...

Re: Drum fills covers band question

If you're playing in a covers band it's not so important to play exactly like the original, except (as pointed out above) there's a memorable or key part you need to ensure you play exactly.
If...
