Re: want to do metal double bass (200 bpm+), no idea where to start

Whenever I read any thread on speed, the general consensus and consistently best advice is always to use a metronome, start slowly and increase speed slowly.

Good luck!

Re: list of drum techniques!!!!

Play metal much? I don't think these are techniques. When I think techniques, I think Moeller, gladstone, heel-toe, ect. You might be better off doing a google search on various drumming techniques.

Re: Info about the Toms

Have you ever listened to your kit while someone else does, perhaps, a roll down the toms? You might find that you can, indeed, distinguish the sound from tom to tom. But, yea, for some reason I...

Re: How big is your bald spot?

Well I just changed snare heads (to an Aquarian single texture coated), but my old Evans has discoloration between a B & C...it's at about 2 o'clock, off-centered. Obviously it's not a bald spot...

Re: sticks

I've been drumming for close to four years. I would say that I broke about 8 pair of sticks in my first two years of drumming, but literally can't remember the last time I broke a stick. I...

Re: Mapex Saturn Vs Mapex Orion

I thought the Saturn's had the Walnut layer on the outside, not the inside? Otherwise, they are the same shells as the Pro-M. I could be wrong; I often am!

Re: Mapex Finishes - IN PERSON

Fell in love with my Platinum Sparkle Pro-M's the first time I saw them...still love them. After I found out they were a lacquer and not a wrap, I was sold. Here's some pics and a breakdown:

Re: Are they the drums you really want?

Oh boy! Well I recently fell in love with Battlefield Drums. I'm thinking Acrylic/Maple hybrid shell...clear acrylic w/ crushed silver sparkle lacquer on the wood sections. Offset lugs. Black...

Thanks guys! I'll have to check out the Jojo DVD; I have always heard good things about it. Wavelength, thanks for taking the time to explain that better - much appreciated!

Re: Accelerating rolls

Wavelength - thanks for that breakdown! I'm glad this thread was started. Nevertheless, I still can't find any info on finger technique for faster speeds. My first drum teacher told me that at a...

Re: Larry Mullen of U2 using Zildjian

Oh, really? I always figured the musicians got a kick-back or something. Interesting. I guess getting free gear is good enough - it would certainly be good enough for me! Thanks for the heads-up,...

Re: Larry Mullen of U2 using Zildjian

I suppose it's just a matter of one sponsor paying more than the other? I don't know much about Larry Mullen, but if he's been a Paiste player for so long, why else would he switch to Zildjian?

Re: Drummers breaking their stuff, on purpose

Yea, imo it's truly ridiculous. I remember the one and only cymbal I ever cracked...I almost cried...can't imagine doing damage to it on purpose! My drums represent my hard-earned money and I'm not...

Re: help - need QUICK ADVICE PLEASE !

Well, I certianly hope it's not an inferior maple since I play Pro-M's! The toms/snare are 7-ply and I'm pretty sure the bass drum is 8-ply. My studio shell-pack is flawless inside and out. If you...

Re: Beginner Drummer with Questions.....

For simple, yet effective drums fills, I love to listen to Jimmy Eat World and Deathcab for Cutie. IMHO, these drummers (especially Zach Lind from Jimmy) really focus on playing for the music, not...

This is why I insure every single package I send out, no exception. File a claim w/ UPS. They will either send a rep to inspect the package (doubtful), or request pics. I bet you get at least $100...

Re: first kit

Welcome to the world of drums, Nick! Out of the 3 sets you mentioned, I would consider the Ludwig Accent. A accent custom kit was my first: it did the job, sounded good w/ decent heads and held up...
