Cover version permission for a CD - anyone in the UK done it?

My band wants to make a CD with a couple of covers among our own stuff. I think I need to approach the MCPS to get the permissions, but it's quite difficult finding out what to do online. Anyone got...

Re: Tip: How to play behind the beat

That's that basis I'm working on and I'm fairly new to putting this into practice. Also I read that Al Jackson Jr reportedly told a young Duck Dunn to delay the 2 and 4 a hair to get the swing. Been...

Re: Heel Up Question

It depends on the tune. Something fast will see you keeping your leg in the air more. Something with more gaps will allow you to go heel down between hits

Re: Heel Up Question

Not true. Spring tension and leg tension hold it off from burying

Re: 17 practice tips that relate to drums I got from loads of violin video-lessons on practice

I like that one. It seems kinda counter-intuitive because as drummers we like the challenge of landing on the next note and getting the gap right. But setting at say 40 and keeping the 16th going in...

Re: Interesting read about certain song lyrics and their meaning

Listening to the old Howlin Wolf song I always wonder if Backdoor Man meant then what it means today at all. And the "eatin' chicken" bit too

Re: What's with The Who?

I can't really listen to em. They do absolutely nothing for me, except make me cringe with their jokey Englishness. Just IMO, like.

Re: The disconnect between musicians perspectives and audience perspective

From the point of view of people that want to dance, it clearly wasn't. Disco and dance music can't be knocked for producing something that people want to listen and dance to. Maybe too many...

For what I'm doing now, Duck Dunn.

Re: An idea - honest opinions sought.

I might spend 300 quid on a lot of experiences but not this. If I wanted to record and film myself playing I'd do it myself/with band members etc. And I think Guru drums are ugly looking things, but...

Re: How do you start your show?

This.

In one of my bands we start with only the band doing a slow jazz-style number setting the scene. That tails off and goes almost seamlessly into a heavy number with the singer wandering...

Re: What have you learned from DW in 2013?

Lots about drumming.

But also that writing my posts with a gap between each line

Makes me look wiser

Re: Is this play along practice beneficial?

Can't hurt to cross-pollinate. In fact it's arguable that rock drumming originated from the playing of soul drummers in the mid-60s, so there's a pedigree for this there. And of course, hopefully,...

Is this Willie Hall?

. . . with Otis, live in London in 66. It certainly looks like a young version of the Blues Bros drummer, but according to my (internet) research he didn't join the Bar-Kays til after the Lake Monona...

Re: I can only play original music?

Really well put!

I recently formed a 60s soul covers band and it's the first time I played proper covers. There is a discipline to it that's teaching me a lot, from charting out tunes to dynamics...

Meanwhile, have you got any thoughts on the other things the OP said like him never being happy with parts he writes or that his...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

Playing any instrument or engaging seriously in almost any practical or intellectual task involves constant improvement. Studies of successful individuals in many fields seem to indicate a need to...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

I'd be wary of learning any lessons from Bonham other than what you can hear from his drumming. The guy was a complete mess (and that's being polite) due to his drink and drugs intake.
