Re: New Black Panther snare

That looks just like my Black Panther, only mine is Cherry and Maple. Size is 6x13. Was $499.00 when in production, now discontinued. Same finish, same lugs...Are you sure yours is walnut? Mapex...

Re: Cutting down an 18'' A Custom Crash to 14''

Nice job. Spend an hour sanding it, and you'll be done. Get emery cloth. Regular sandpaper won't last very long. I wouldn't worry about a taper if you're using it as a hi-hat, You really need a...

Re: Danny Carey

I think I might own one of Danny Carey's old drum sets.
It's a 70's Pearl clear acrylic 5-piece set. I picked it up used from a guy, and went to Explorer's Percussion here in KC to buy heads for...

Re: Mapex M Series Drums, Need Info

Thanks guys, and they seem like nice drums, though I haven't played them yet.
I wanted to know the wood because I plan on selling them and I didn't want to rip anyone off by advertising them as...

Mapex M Series Drums, Need Info

I recenty bought a 7-piece M-series kit. The badges say M and Made in China. Does my kit have basswood shells with an outer ply of maple? That's what I'm thinking from limited Google searches.

Re: What would you pay for this kit?

If he has the resonant side rims and tension rods, and those cymbals are really worth $400 new and not cracked, then yes, it's probably worth $350 all together, a music store might sell it for more.

Re: Neil Peart Plays Buddy Rich

All I have to say is that Gregg has everyone beat with that sweet haircut. The mullet-tux combination does it for me.

Re: THE DRUM MODIFICATION THREAD.

I have a 90's Sonor Force 2001 kit in black wrap with faux-tube lugs. The kit still looks good except for some bubbling wrap on top of the bass drum, from playing long gigs in the sun, I think. ...

Slingerland Brass Piccolo

Found this at a pawn shop for $50+tax. Sounds nice, nothing wrong with it, and I figured it's worth at least what I paid. Anyone think it's worth a bit more?

8 lugs per side, offset. The 4x14"...

Re: Sonic drums. Ever Heard of them. Good deal?

I bought a Sonic snare, Maple 6.5x14" (10 lugs per side), about four years ago in response to a thread here on drummerworld. It was my main snare drum up until recently.

It sounds good and the...

Re: Anti Technique ??

As Wy Yung said, technique is a means to an end, at least for me. I seek out a lesson or advice whenever I am unable to do something I want on my kit. I find out what technique is necessary or...

Re: what on earth is wrong with my technique?

Dude, that game rocks. I'm on a Sega kick right now. You know that controller that plugs into your TV's A/V jacks and has like 20 Genesis games on it? I'm totally getting that.

Re: Vruk pedal attachment

I learned something:

I changed pedals and it made me realize that in an effort to make heel/toe easier, I had set the beaters too far foward, basically defeating the Power Glide cam action. I...

Re: THE DRUMMING DICTIONARY.

Yes and Yes. I should have said the fulcrum is where you are supposed to hold the stick. It's that balance point.

Re: THE DRUMMING DICTIONARY.

Fulcrum is basically where in your hand the stick pivots. The hinge, if you will.

Rudiments are practice excersises and also the foundation of all drum patterns. They are the basics.

Fingers...

Re: Vruk pedal attachment

I actually use my heel. With shoes on it feels like the middle of my foot. I went to Guitar Center today and was doing fast doubles on their bass pedal display, with DW 9000 and 5000. I would like...

Re: Music tracks minus drums...

You can take vocals out usually by cutting the midrange a lot...I think my fourth grade music teacher had a tape player with a switch to cut vocals, but basically I think it just cut out the...

Re: Vruk pedal attachment

I might have to get some Axis pedals or the Vruk attachment for my iron cobras. I've messed around with my pedal, and even though it's set up how i like, I still have to slam my heel into it to get...

Re: Any punk drummers that anyone likes?

Eric Ghint from NOFX.

And Moonchild:
Punk drumming can get pretty tough, partly because it can get really fast. It might be simple beats sped up, but try playing along to NOFX's "the decline"...

Re: Is Traditional Faster?

Try using your fingers a bit. Middle finger and thumb. Can't really explain it in words, but mess around with it and see if it helps you play fast at softer volumes. Work in the wrist more for...

Re: Is Traditional Faster?

It shouldn't matter, regarding speed. Power is another issue, as larger muscles can come into play with matched grip. But speed is largely technique, and techniques such as Moeller can be done with...
