Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

I've had these discussions with guys before too, (Mostly guitarists).
Recently I stepped into a new musical situation and at the first rehearsal they let me know that the next song we are going to...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

If I'm using two toms up top I go 10" & 12", but if I'm only doing one up top I use a 13".

I actually had some articles published in Music Connection Magazine about this topic.
Please take a look at both of them below, you may find them helpful.

Re: Is it bad to have little or no individuality?

I pick my gear for the gig at hand.
I have a number of Snares, Crashes, Hi Hats & Rides. What goes up on the kit depends on what I need for that gig. My shells are the same. I have a 5 pc "studio"...

Re: Yamaha stage custom

Great drums for the money.
I used on on a tour last year and was really really happy with it.
The new 2014 Stage Custom has a thicker birch shell and the same lugs as the old Maple Customs. Real...

Re: Playing to click - the mechanics

In rehearsals I just run my click to my in-ears directly.
For gigs I have a small mixer that I line the click into & also a feed of the live band.
I can mix them in my own ears to hear everything...

Re: live band click tracks

If your just doing clubs/bars and smaller venues here is the easiest/cheapest way to go about running tracks:

1. Pan the click hard right & pan the tracks hard left.

2 .Mix down to a stereo...

Re: Whats the weirdest thing you ever broke on your kit during a gig?

I think as one point or another I've broken everything....lol

Cymbal stands, Snare Stands, Thrones, Heads, Bass Drum beaters.
Once I even cracked and broke a die-cast hoop on a snare!

Re: Novak moves to Sakae.

I recently sat down with one of Sakae's new top artists, who's a good friend of mine, and this kind of sums up why he made the move.

The way I understand it is that the quality of the drums is the...

Oh, and performed in front of 300,000 people two years in a row at festivals in Vegas, not to mention the other hundreds to thousands that have seen a gig over the last few years...

You would be...

I am seriously considering ordering set for myself though...

Re: What is this snare?Josh Freese A perfect Circle - Mer De Noms

This was his go-to snare a lot of the time in studio, as is a go-to for a large amount of rock drummers. I'm guessing this is the one, and I saw one available on ebay recently.
Just type in "Josh...

Re: Garbage Percussion

I've had a decent career the last 3 1/2 years as a member of Street Drum Corps.
My "kit" for this gig consists of a 55 gallon plastic barrel, a 55 gallon oil drum, tire rims, paint buckets, a fire...

Yamaha Live Custom (Oak) review

I just have to share....
I used a new Live Custom kit this past week for some small club gigs.
Sizes 10" & 14" for Toms and an 18" Kick.

I was blown away, these are some of the greatest drums...

Re: Yamaha Rock Tour--Holy Guacamole!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never had issue with my Rock Tour toms projecting.
In fact, just the opposite. Sometimes the smaller toms are too loud and need to be dropped a little to match the depth of the floor toms.

I have a late 80's RC kit (10" 12" 14" 16" 22")
Since getting it about a year and a half ago I have used it on every single recording session I've done and will continue to forever. These are the...

Re: Drum rehearsal rooms in LA

What area of LA will you be in? They have places all over (with crappy backline drums) but you probably want someplace close to where your staying... You're not going to drive to Burbank if your...

Re: Do drummers lose points for disassembling the moment the show is done?

Most small clubs that book 6 bands a night require you to get on and off stage as fast as possible. Sometimes with only 10-15 min change between bands.

However what I HATE and will instantly take...

Re: The definition of a "good drummer"

1. Solid Tempo

2. Plays for the song, yet still musical and creative when needed

3. Showmanship (doesn't have to be crazy, but don't look like your board, live music is visual entertainment)

Re: Sakae Brings Back the "Recording Custom"

I haven't been impressed with Sakae.
Mainly the hardware, it just looks cheep.

I found out recently that Yamaha farmed out the shells to Sakae, however it was still Yamaha's engineers that...
