Faking "Late in the Evening"?

I have tried off-and-on again to learn the right way to play it, but I still can't make it through the whole song playing the full Mozambique.

Anybody have a good fake for "Late in the Evening"?...

Re: Ringo should have performed at Candlestick Park not just Paul

Yeah, it's a little hard to say it's not important because it was so long ago when the whole justification behind McCartney still touring is Beatles nostalgia.

I do think Paul McCartney has tried...

Re: Drummers are the smartest musicians

I posted something similar to this on my Facebook, but then realized I was being Canadian.

By that I mean: you know how Canadians are always talking about how they're better than Americans, how...

Re: Drum capo?

Yeah I have a set of rototoms, but with that goofy stand I have never been able to find a good way to set them up. Maybe I should just get one of those FX toms and hang it next to my rack tom.

Drum capo?

I was wondering, sometimes you want your toms to be a little higher for a song - sometimes really high, like if it's Latin or reggae. From watching Stewart Copeland and others play I learned you can...

Re: Bad Auditions

Pleased to know that Drummerworld is not exempt from the 'at least one utter douchebag per thread' rule. Don't you have puppies to kick?

Re: Bad Auditions

Yeah I may go back to that. One kind of nice thing for drummers is that places with open-mics generally have a kit all set up. You just show up and play. In the past doing this has just gotten me...

Re: Bad Auditions

I don't particularly appreciate being characterized as 'smug'.

One thing that I've learned over the years is that anything written down - email, forum posts - will be read by somebody in...

Re: Support BENNY GREB's new DVD...

Well it is much more expensive to do anything in the UK. With these things in general its best not to think of overall cost - just whether the entry fee is right for you. And for 15 Euros you get a...

Re: Bad Auditions

Well I am kind of new to this. But previous auditions have either not gone this way, or if they have, they were smart enough to not say it outright. I've heard "we're going to decide by the end of...

Re: Bad Auditions

Yeah you're the second person to reply with that thought, and while I can understand looking at it that way, I don't :-P

It would be different if it were like those Dream Theater auditions where 5...

Re: Leave Me Alone, rant 2

Do we have to immediately make everything about a person's outward characteristics? It probably has nothing to do with your sex (gender is a nonsensical psychological term), but rather to do with all...

Bad Auditions

I had a bad audition recently. And I don't mean an audition where I performed badly. I mean a bad audition.

Local band put an ad in Craigslist, and I happened to see it pretty quickly. Sent them...

Re: Another Simon Philips kick fan

Not sure what you mean? When I play jazz I use a felt head so there's no slapping, but for rock I use the plastic side. That creates a 'slappy' sound, it's a big ball of plastic hitting a big sheet...

Another Simon Phillips kick fan

I just wanted to post that I tried the Simon Philips thing - rolling up a towel and taping it to the inside of the batter head of your kick - and I was extremely dubious it would work because I'm...

Re: Bill Bachman's Drumworkout.com - One Week Free Access

Okay awesome, thanks for the response. Yeah I probably should have cheated and peeked ahead, but I got fascinated trying to fix my freestroke. Still just doing freestrokes and dribbling, third week...

Re: Bill Bachman's Drumworkout.com - One Week Free Access

Hi Bill, I tried the free week but didn't get past the first two lessons (in fact I'm still working on free stroke and free stroke dribbling, trying to get to 10k).

Quick question: on the first...

Re: Danny Seraphine

Maybe he's thinking of something like "War Pigs", which has a decidedly jazzy intro and some fun, crazy fills.

Re: When people ask you to 'play something', what do you play?

Ahh, that's because you're doing it wrong. It's Boom Snare, Boom BOOM Snare! :-P

Re: Danny Seraphine

Hmm. You mention "Old Days" (one of my most hated songs, I don't know if anybody could have saved that Peter Cetera nonsense). Do you find Seraphine's drumming to be bad on all, or most songs? Like...

Re: When Your Band Won't Gig

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like my fears were correct. We've had one "what do you guys want to do" discussion, but I think two of the guys in the band are a little in fear of the third, and...

When Your Band Won't Gig

I'm in a very frustrating position, so I'd like to vent a bit, and if there's any advice to be given, please feel free :-P

I've been playing drums for about ten years now - I started late in life....

Re: Good exercises for two-handed hi-hat beats?

Sorry for going dark after asking the question! This is basically what I'm asking. The problem for me is the right hand going from hat to snare, crash, etc, without disturbing the rhythm. At high...
