Re: New snare build with 5 ply Keller Magnum shell

I really liked the look of this wrap, so I did it. No other reason. if I want to in the future, I can take the wrap off and fool with the wood later, since it is taped on, not totally glued. but, I...

Re: New snare build with 5 ply Keller Magnum shell

In theory, I agree with you, and my ultimate drum would be a solid wood shell (Guru!) The only difficulty for many would be the fact that once you get past the 3 point to 1, the cost of drums goes up...

New snare build with 5 ply Keller Magnum shell

I just completed a new 14x6.5 snare using the newer Keller Magnum 5 ply shell. I think that this is a huge step backwards, and that is good! by backwards, I mean thst this marks a return in thinking...

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

There will always be different opinions on whether vintage Acros (as well as Supras) sound better than the new ones. I have played both, and can honestly say that given same heads, snares, and equal...

Re: The matching snare

Although it is not necessary, I like snares that match the set, or are at least complimentary. Since most hardware is chrome, chrome snares like chrome plated supras (lm400, COB, etc.) look good...

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

Congratulations! Just great workhorse drums, and by changing heads, snares, tunings, you can make it sound like whatever you want it to. Don't ever let it get away!

Re: New snare, one of a kind look

To give credit where it is due, the folks at Bum Wrap Drum Co. did it for me.

New snare, one of a kind look

I just finished building this snare, and I believe that it is a one of a kind in looks. I rarely see any wraps that feature stone, and this one particularly. It is Petoskey stone, which is only found...

Re: Good exercises for developing mobility around the set?

I agree with the previous comment, and would also suggest using stick control and spreading those exersizes over a wider range. Spread it to two, then three, etc.

Re: My P-86 does NOT fit in my Supra!

The holes in my Acro were tight. The screws with the P-86 went in like self tapping screws, but they went in OK. They are tight, just crank the screws in. If I remember correctly, the P-86 screw...

Re: Rogers Dynasonic Custom Built Snare 10 Lugs

I had a early 70's Rogers COB 5", It was in perfect (showroom) condition and got around $500. The finish on this one is a little rougher, but it is probably worth $400-$500, if everything works on it.

Re: what's the effect of central lugs on the sound

A number of people have removed gaskets on drums and most say it improved the sound. depending on the gasket, which works as a shim also, you could introduce lug splay. Try one to be sure of the...

Re: what's the effect of central lugs on the sound

One comment that I have heard from some makers is that having a one point central lug has the potential of causing stress at that point because you have tension rods pulling in opposite directions...

Re: The best kits we've ever made - Honest Capture videos!

I have never heard drums that sounded so pure and musical. they sing like timpani! There are a lot of good sounding single ply makers out there, but I have never heard the like of these. . .

need help with info on 60's-mid 70's marching snares

I am trying to find out what snare wire sets were most used on 60's-70's parade/marching drums by the major manufacturers. would they have been 16 wire, 20 wire, something else? Surely we have some...

Re: Should I get this snare?

The LM402 is as close to a do it all drum as you will ever find. Having said that, Acrolites are equally awesome. Some consider them to be the "little brother to the supras, but I think that unfair....

Re: Couple of questions on how best to practice for speed

For control, play slow. Painfully slow. Play stick control exersizes at 40-60 bpm. strive for accuracy, slowly increase, not looking for speed, but accuracy and steadiness. Slowly increase your...

Re: Playing With No Wraps

Playing without wraps? Never been an issue with me. Usually when I play, I stay plenty warm. If it is cold out, or the AC is cranked, I might put on a wrap, just depends . . .
