Re: Hal Blaine's Monster set w/ Donn Bennett

I agree - either a music museum or a serious drum collector. BTW, I also liked Donn's other videos on YT, as well. I'd love to be able to go to Washington state and visit his shop in person and see...

Re: Hal Blaine's Monster set w/ Donn Bennett

Here's the listing on Reverb. I believe there's a YT video in the listing and a ton of photographs. Hal authenticated the kit and sold it to Rockin' Rita's in 1996, which is where Donn got it from....

Re: Louis Bellonís Modern Drummer Ad Consent Letter

Cool! I love seeing artifacts like this!!! If I recall, Bellson was an influence on my favorite drummer, Ronnie Tutt.

(However, I will say that, in all fairness, I have come to learn to...

Re: Favorite throw off and why?

It's hard for me to say which one I like better since I've not been able to spend alot of time that I've wanted to spend around a drum set - only enough time to learn to play and not learn the...

Re: Ronnie Tutt 1969

I know that Ronnie mostly played the Ludwig's with the fronts of the kick drums off of them. My question is: how did he still get such a great sound from them?? I know they were mic'ed, but, I...

Re: Ronnie Tutt 1969

When I get my Tutt tribute kit setup in a couple of years after getting some huge debts off of the family, is it going to be possible to get the same tuning on my Ludwigs as Ronnie had for his (the...

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

Are you referring to your every day "bedroom" musician, weekend warrior and the bands that think they're good or are you referring to professional musicians such as, say, Clapton, Vince Gill, James...

Re: Revisiting My Life in Music: Early Days at Modern Drummer

Scott, I saw this thread earlier and just never thought of reading it and am I happy that I did!

I love reading stories like this. Being a drummer since I was seven, I've, strangely, never...

Re: Hal Blaine's Monster set w/ Donn Bennett

Thanks for posting that link! I very much enjoyed watching it and learning how the kit was put together. I never knew until that video that there are/were two identical drum kits!

Smaller Drums In Front Of The Kick Drum???

I was watching, "The Dance", DVD by Fleetwood Mac and also browsing through the drummers listed here on the site (Tommy Aldridge) & one thing that I just began to notice is that there is what looks...

Thanks again for the advice and link. :) I know that one thing I'm going to do (since I also have a bad back) is get one of the drummer thrones that have a backrest on it. I'm really, really...

Re: Too Old To Play???

Thank you, gentlemen, for your replies - I probably answered my own question when I mentioned Ronnie Tutt still playing @ 77 (and I'm thankful that he is!).

Sometimes I just get to thinking about...

Too Old To Play???

I know this is a stupid question and I'm not trying at all to pad my post count but....do any of you drummers ever think that there comes a time in a person's life when they're too old to seriously...

Re: What's your favorite drumset category? Drums, cymbals or hardware

I think the first thing that struck me as a then seven-year-old and seeing that blue swirl Ludwig drum set up on stage were the hi-hats. There was something about them that intrigued me and as I got...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

If I'm not mistaken, I believe I read somewhere that Ronnie Tutt used nylon tips on his sticks (Regal 5B's endorser) and during a rehearsal with Elvis one time, one of the tips came off, barely...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I like Pro-Mark 7A's with the plastic tip (since I don't have a set, I can play air drums and not get anything damaged). Even if I had a drum set, which I hopefully will in the very near future, I...

Re: Ex-Byrds Drummer Gene Parsons Drum Kit??

Scott,

You are very welcome and I very much agree. I like all of The Byrds' music (I have their entire Columbia CD set that was sold on Amazon a couple of years ago) but the 1968-1973 era of the...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Ya'll will have to forgive me this once, please.

There's no new drums to speak of but I do have a guy who's building this guitar for me. It's an almost dead-on replica of the late Clarence...

Re: Where Do You Fit? - Poll

That's me. Although I don't have a set of my own, I have a neighbor who has a couple of KILLER DW double-kick sets that I love to fool around with but wish I could/would be a better player on a...

Re: Drinking and Drumming

I've never drank anything more than water or Coke during a gig. I have no use for the stuff because I had an uncle who died after suffering a heart attack after being an alcoholic for many years. ...
