Re: Made a new marching snare

You brought tears to Jim's eyes, I'd say that is one fine drum.

Great job with it. Have you tried using it with your kit? I have a 14x10 monster that works as a kit snare and can be cranked up for...

Re: My speed has stalled

Don't worry about speed for now. Many a new drummer has fallen into this trap and let their technique lapse. Focus on playing everything clean and the speed will come along.

Loose is good, loose...

Re: Sometimes, it all becomes so worthwhile :)

It was Bermuda wasn't it? I'd recognize that prose anywhere. Does Ludwig know that he doesn't love them anymore?

Re: Fraud Alert on eBay!

Karl! How I have missed you. Hope you're doing well after that horrid Midwestern winter.

It stands as testament to how observant you are that you can recognize your own drums that quickly. Have...

Re: 6-Lug Whitehall?

I say go for it. Can't go wrong for $15, if you think you'll get $15 worth of entertainment out of it then it'll be worth it. Try and see if he'll take $10.

If it doesn't sound good then try...

Re: But What To Wear?

yet another reason I am very happy to live in the great American Southwest. I'm really not a shorts and flip-flops kind of guy but I have been known to rock them in this God awful summer.

Re: An Englishman in New Orleans.

I honeymooned in NOLA December of 2013, had a great time. We did Bourbon St one night just because I wanted to check it out. It was like a dirtier, smaller Vegas. Needless to say my wife and I didn't...

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

That right there is my problem with free gigs. I'm all for doing a buddy a favor or playing a sweet charity gig but these gigs usually devolve into this. Sort of the "give a mouse a cookie"...

Re: You won't believe what Andy did

Cheese steak? You don't want his first food in the country to be that terrible stuff. Take him to get some tacos. Do you have those in PA?

Re: Hoops?

mmm... steak

As you can see, people have their preference and some strong opinions about hoop selection.

The short of it is that Die cast have more mass than a triple flanged hoop, that is...

Re: Wrapping a kit on the cheap

I had my Stage Customs wrapped in this red snakeskin fabric.

I am also in the process of wrapping a snare shell...

Re: The Orphan Drum Factory II

I think you did a wonderful job Jim. That bass drum looks beautiful, reminds me of a fancy pipe. I think it is even prettier because it has been saved. I really do think it would have looked great as...

Re: Researching my First Vintage Kit, Suggestions Please :)

+1 to that. I have been seeing a Rogers kit, I believe its 24, 18, 16, 14 or 13. Guy is having trouble selling it at $250. I already have a 24" kit and plenty of Rogers drums, otherwise I'd jump on...

Re: Researching my First Vintage Kit, Suggestions Please :)

Ludwig, George Way, Pork Pie and a few other that escape me ATM all make a Ludwig Club Date clone (or reissue in Luddy's case) that is supposed to produce a passable vintage tone.

I prefer the...

Re: Any "fun" grooves for practice pad?

I'm all about the 2nd line. These are great for working on your sticking heights too. Keep the non-accented notes low so the accents stand out. When you find a band and start gigging and want to play...

Re: Loud drums

Come to think about it, my usual COB snare was indispose the other day and I had to use my 14x10 snare for my church gig. I have them tuned about the same and the big snare was plenty responsive for...

Re: Loud drums

I have a few snares that I certainly perceive to be louder than others.

The working theory is that the "loud" drums have a more pronounced high range and carry more. Thus they are perceived to be...

Re: Making a difference - Oz update :)

Go Oz! Now someone needs to fix him up American style and make some fancy chrome hubcaps for those wheels. He'll be the coolest cat since Tom Jones.

Re: 5.5" Bell bronze

Do you offer drilling on your shells? Thinking about doing a Supra knockoff...

Any plans to start doing spun brass shells? How about cast aluminum?
