Been there ...know what you mean. I think this can go in waves really. Sometimes it is great to be playing ANY material (most times actually) however if stuff is stale or you feel limited in anyway...

I agree. In Pearts case he is playing in a 3 piece that for anyone who has seen Rush Live or has been 10-12 rows back at a show can attest...they are powerful and Lifeson's sound is layered and...

its all in how you tune em......Check out many many other people who play DW.
Or maybe you don't like a really open drum sound? Peart in particular has gone to less and less muffling.
