Re: New drummer needs help!

The difference is that the basic musical staff caters for a single octave, and guitar and piano cover multiple octaves, which means that it is necessary to add lines above and below the staff (when...

Re: Anyone just play drums for themselves only?

Music is like sex. Sure, you can do it on your own, and if it feels good then it is good. But it's way more fun if other people are involved. Also, subject to local laws, nobody else's opinion of...

Re: backing tracks with removable instruments ?

Re: Analogue to digital - the journey begins.

They want their anguished hand wringing back. :)

Re: Analogue to digital - the journey begins.

Re: About to buy a Gretsch Catalina Club kit...

Guys you're doing this wrong.

The OP announced that he is looking at a Gretsch kit; please ensure that recommendations are for every brand EXCEPT Gretsch.

Bonus points if you recommend a kit...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

No, that's just finding different ways to suck.

Re: Do You Think...

There is another change that drives the answer to this question, and that is the way we relate to music.

Increasingly, music is a background to other pursuits. If you aren't buying physical media...

Re: Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

Is triggering the bass drum the answer?

I have no experience with triggering (snowflake!) but I would expect that a trigger would need less force than an acoustic drum.

Re: How to start?

Allow me to contradict some of the points made so far. (That's what the internet is really for.)

Hearing protection - if you need it, use it. But if you (and your band) play at a level where...

Re: struggling to get through a song

I think that IS your problem.

Most of "us" use the lyrics as big clues to where we are in the structure of the song. Take the clues away, and everything gets a whole lot harder.

One you needs...

Re: Gigging Mishaps

Two years ago my band got to play a small local music festival. Our lead singer was away, but we had got a stand in, and had a well rehearsed 45 minute set.

We were due to go on at 10 pm, as the...

Re: struggling to get through a song

There are tools that let you slow down audio tracks.

For fruity devices, there is The Amazing Slowdowner which (I believe) can even slow down music as it streams from Spotify.

For PC, Audacity...

Re: How to start?

35?

I may be over generalising based on my own experience, but that seems a little young to start.

Re: "too Busy"

In my book there are three broad approaches:

Tribute - The aim is to get the sound to be as close to the original band as humanly possible.

Cover - Everybody tries to replicate the original...

Re: "too Busy"

For clarity: you are responding to my claim that (in a covers band) we should aim to replicate, as closely as possible, the drum part. And yes, that assumes that you are attempting to replicate the...

Re: "too Busy"

It's not clear from your post, but if you are playing covers, you should be aiming to replicate the recorded part as closely as possible.

Re: Whitney Nesting Drums

The previous drummer of the band that I am a guitarist in had a Whitney nesting kit, and I was not a fan. They sounded thin and flat, with no body. Could it be that these kits are very sensitive to...

Re: Band names?

Who cares if there is another band with the same name in a different time zone?

For most of us there are other people with the same name and it doesn't cause a problem.

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Why would a record company sell millions of copies of a record if they lose money on each copy sold?

Hoping to make it up through volume?
