Re: Yamaha Recording Customs - Help!!

Congrats on the kit, I'm surprised they allowed him to return it. I guess they didn't classify it as a vintage kit.

The 24x14 inch kick is a monster, I love my '78 YD-9000 24x14 kick.

Re: 5x15 Supralite

That's a 13x6". SaltyDog was asking about a 13x7" because gdmoore28 said they had a 13x7".

I think probably gdmoore28 is mistaken and it is actually a 13x6 not 13x7.

Re: 5x15 Supralite

Another Supralite fan here. I have a 14x6.5 and it is one of my two main snares, the other being a Pork Pie Cherry Bubinga 14x7. I keep saying the Supralite is one of the best deals going out there.

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

Mainly just the combination of 18" kick with it being really shallow. I'm fan of shallower kicks and depending on what your doing it might be fine, but it wouldn't be the most versatile.

Re: NDD Take 2 Yamaha Again.... YD9000 this time.

I've seen that, the only issue with that is that it is a 9000DA model, they aren't 100% Birch, they are Philippine Mahogany and Camellia. What ended up becoming the Tour Series I think.

I...

Re: for sale - east coast

Honestly, I'd ask like $825 and probably take $800. $300 for drums, $150 for hardware, $375 for cymbals.

Re: BPM question

In written music it is usually written 4/4 is Quarter Note = ____ . And 2/2 or Cut Time is Half Note = ____ . 6/8 is Eighth Note = _____ though a lot of times it is counted in 2 as a triplet feel. ...

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

I've seen these and they seem like they'd make a great second kit. I'm not 100% sure if it'd be a good first kit though.

Re: My final jazz drum set. Is it good? Anything i can improve on?

If your looking to play jazz your cymbals are of utmost importance. That should be your priority, then drums, then hardware, then heads.

Your welcome, congrats on the RCs btw. I have a set of '78 Yamaha Pre-RC YD-9000s and love them.

The RF at the end denotes it is a power size.

Re: Yamaha Detectives: Please Help Me Decode My Recording Customs...

I agree. Might have been a case where someone had one kit, and got a second to do a double kick setup.

Re: Where is the "best kit" thread :)

It is important to remember not all stock heads are created equal. Like the Live Custom set you mentioned comes with Yamaha branded Remo Emperors over Remo Ambassadors. Where a lot of kits come...

Re: Where is the "best kit" thread :)

"Good sound" is subjective. Can you make a $100 kit sound good with some good heads and tuning? Yes. Can you get it to resonate with the tone and complexity of a more expensive kit? No. But then...

Re: SJC Drums and "The Profit" TV Show

Yeap. Keller shells. I think their big claim to fame is that they offered a lot of unique finishes and stuff like that.

Re: Which wood type to go with

I've heard good and okay things about the ddrum reflexes but I haven't seen one in person to try. I've heard they are similar to Birch drums but not as rich sounding but more focused. As far as I...

Re: Which wood type to go with

Only problem with buying used drums, is that while it works pretty well if your in to standard sizes, if you like odd sizes they are almost impossible to find.

Re: Jazz setup

What do you currently have?

Depending on the size and exactly what the gig is, I bring my Ludwig Signet 20x15, 12x8, 14x14 kit, with my Zildjian K Light/Thin cymbals. Though I'm thinking about...

Re: Which wood type to go with

Hard to go wrong with whatever you get in this list. Just remember to save enough money for quality cymbals as they can add up real quick, I don't know if the DWs or the Tamas would allow you enough...

Re: for sale - east coast

I actually saw the Wine Red version of these drums used at one of the Guitar Centers around here for $299 and it had upgraded heads.

Drums just have really bad resale, and I think Pearls...

Re: NDD Take 2 Yamaha Again.... YD9000 this time.

I have to say after having this kit with the natural bass drum hoops, I don't know why more don't do that. it looks especially good against the white finish.

Anyway thanks everyone for the great...

Re: Gretsch Renown 18" or 20" bass drum

If it was your only kit I'd say go 20, but since it isn't and it'll used primarily for jazz I'd go with the 18".

I think often we forget how much the heads contribute to the sound.
