Re: Acoustic Drums VS Electronic Drum Kits

also Roland is about to announce the TD-25, which means there may be a small flood of e-drum kits become available as people upgrade in the next couple months.

this is a a great overview for looking at used kits. very comprehensive.

And really the big decision is mesh, rubber, mylar or other for the pad...

Re: Acoustic Drums VS Electronic Drum Kits

I have both, and use my e-drums 95% of the time. my acoustics only come out of the cases for gigs. Mine is a higher level e-kit though. I wouldn't be interested in the lower end drums, by the time I...

Re: Is live music dead?

THis totally matches my experience playing in bar bands for 25ish years too. When people couldn't smoke in pubs anymore, pretty much attendance dropped about 50% in my area.

Re: Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

yeah open jams are an "interesting" experience. I always find I know every song all night, until I get up for my 3 songs, and then they are 3 I've never heard of, and I come off like an idiot. lmao....

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

I finally watched the movie last night. I actually really enjoyed it. Simmons was fantastic. I feel like the plot was the generic every sports movie, but then they twisted it, which I liked.

I...

Re: Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

This. You have to look at things in context of the era at the time. Everything was being programmed around that point. I remember lots of articles back in the day saying how session work was...

Re: Is Don Henley relevant here?

I love Don Henley. Life in the Fast Lane has a great drum part, plus he's the lead singer at the same time, which is not easy to do at all.

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

I agree, and I don't want to derail the thread any further, but I do stand behind my theory that most of the Lars hate comes from the Napster battle. And yes maybe Lars is just mailing it in for the...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Yes the music industry itself has always been shameless in not fairly compensating artists, but since Napster, pretty much no one under the age of 30 believes music has any monetary value. Quite...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Lars was one of the biggest musical influences for me as a teenager. Kill em all and Ride the Lightning are still two of my favorite albums to this day. At the time there was nothing else like them,...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

I have both. I have a Yamaha DTX950k (the top of Yamaha's line) that I just upgraded to before Christmas from an older Yamaha e-kit. I'd say I use the e-kit for 95% of my playing, and just use my...

Re: Are E-kits only good for practicing at home?

at least to me, playing e-drums live, it's all about the PA system. Everyone in the band need good monitors, or in-ears, then they'll hear your drums fine. If not, then they probably won't be happy....

Re: Great car for a drummer

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 hatch and my 7 piece kit (single bass drum) and hardware, all in cases, fits perfectly, (although I wouldn't be able to carry anything else), but the passenger seat is...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I've made 2 purchases over Christmas.
1. THe big one, came across a used Yamaha DTX950 e drum kit. Price was too good, so I couldn't say no. lol. So I flipped my old e-drums right after, and am...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I do think she draws a lot of attention for being a very pretty girl drummer, probably more than someone else might who was male, but at least to me, I give her full kudo's for finding a way to make...

Re: Yes, professional grade drum kits are pushed!

When I used to gig all the time, my Pearl exports went from the back of the pickup truck, into the garage, until the next weekend, all winter. -30C to a +21C warm bar, and back. I'd just go to the...

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

every band breaks up / fizzles out / explodes spectacularly - eventually.

I've quit bands, and been fired from bands. "Shut up and Play" is a spectacularly good piece of advice.

I've also...

Re: Playing 15 years, terrible stick control

I can't help with your problem, I'd say I'm in the exact same position as you though. So I'm looking forward to see what responses you get. I also wanted to say, love the user name. I laughed.

Re: Importance of a good drum throne?

the best purchase, bar none, of any musical gear I've ever bought was a good throne. It always seems to be the last investment anyone ever makes, but it makes far more difference than any other piece...

Re: Country drummers!

I agree with some of the other commenters, country is not in a good place right now. Too corporate, to same sounding, and not country. I think the new country boom of the 90's was the high point, I...

Re: Country drummers!

Yeah, I've played country most of my bar-band life, starting in the early 90's when new country hit. Up here north of Toronto, there's still lots of gigs for doing country. I still do the odd pickup...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

modern edrums outsell acoustic kits. And the new simple starter kits are fantastic for letting someone try out the drums to see if they enjoy them. For a beginner all the different kits and sounds...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

I'm totally in agreement with Larryace on tuning for the audience. I tune mine tighter than you'd think too for the toms. I learned this years ago, when I started intentionally tuning my toms higher,...
