Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

I play with a regional act that is a 10 piece band. If you asked ANY of these guys to rehearse they'd laugh. This is a band that brings in $3500+ per show (corporate, weddings, clubs, etc).
They...

Re: The biggest gear hoarders in DW

My biggest question and issue is storage...
Any tips on nice ways to keep these things together?

I have 7 kits, 60+ cymbals, 10+ snares, orphan drums, percussion instruments, and a closet full...

Re: How many drum kits are too many?

I tend to agree with the opinion that it's really a personal thing. For some living in a small apartment 1 kit is all that is possible. If you have the room and the cash, 100 kits may be what you...

Re: RIP Mr. Ed Shaugnessy

I had the pleasure of meeting Ed once. He had a presence when I spoke to him. Extremely classy and a great person. Quoted as saying he "survived" the Buddy duel.

Re: Mom and Pop vs the big box

I work for a mom and pop music organization.
Sadly, I can tell you that the small stuff that you guys pass on is what adds up in sales totals. It's not just the big stuff.
Now, you can't give bad...

Re: Do you wear the drum brand?

Zildjian just changed logos again. Guess what? Bigger!
The "Avedis" is off the logo and the monster A that appears on A Custom will now appear on standard A as well. I couldn't believe when I heard...

Re: & I was concerned about our prices!

The kit/builder you're referring to is Jeff Ocheltree. He made the 2002 snares, and the "Phantom Steel" snares (carbon steel). He has also made a few kits. I know a guy who personally has one and he...

Re: Any ingenious solutions for cymbal storage?

I use a "cymbal tree" I picked up from a local store. It was empty, so I made an offer on it. Go by any local store and ask them if they have one they can spare; you may be surprised. It will hold...

Re: Best purchases you've made for drums.

I immediately think of my Premier Signia 75th anniversary kit. I feel like I stole it from the owner.
My Artisan cymbals...

Re: Anyone ever sit down at a friend's drumkit that "sounds awesome" and

Yes. This often happens on house kits I find. Also, if you play originals and agree to share a kit, it will surely almost "sound awesome" until you get there.
I encounter this working in music...

Re: Bar fight

If you attempted to play a place in south Louisiana where there was no alcohol at gigs you would not have many options.
I play a place here in my area that is known for having the rough crowd of...

Re: This thread is for all the lurkers

I lurk daily.
I've been a member for a while, but I rarely post...not sure why. I guess I'm just shy. I did start a "covers vs. originals" thread that gained some traction a while back.
I'll try...

Re: Your Premier experience

I'm personally an "old school" Premier nut. I have a 75th anniversary Premier Signia kit,(you can see pictures of another in the Premier thread) and a late 90s 7pc Genista. I love every second I play...

Re: What makes the drum worlds' "Les Paul - Marshall Stack" or "P-Bass - Ampeg Stack" equivalent?

I find more often that not the studio has a Yamaha kit for "in house". Cymbals are usually A Zildjian.

What's "best" is why we have so many drum companies.....

Re: "Pies"?

I always thought that during the manufacturing process, the cast that comes out of the mold was called a pie. This is when they weigh and before they heat and roll. The cast would actually be the...

Re: Best deal you've ever scored on drum gear

I once bought an electric guitar for about $75. I then traded that guitar for a Ddrum Diatribe birch 22/10/12/16 with Iron Cobra doubles, a Pork Pie throne, and lots of decent hardware. Great gig...

Re: Out of Print Drum Books

I have a copy of Goldenburg's "Modern School for Snare Drum" that I treasure. It's about 18 years old, and dog-eared/torn/worn in all the right places. Pencil notes all over it...you name it. I...

Re: Presents!

I got a 22" Sabian Artisan Medium.
It's a super sweet ride, and after having the artisan hats and crash, I had to have it. It really does compliment every cymbal I own, and ties together properties...

Wow! What a year! Until this thread I hadn't looked back through the calendar.

This year I played or did 121 gigs, with 11 different bands in full-time, sub, or house gig roles. I ran sound as...

Re: Craviotto Worth The Money?

I'd agree with this and Bo 100%. You're going to be very limited on that kit and what you're going to do as far as sound. I agree with the mentality of using what you actually have, but only to an...

I agree, and what you said about pay for the different gigs is SO true. That's usually the EXACT wording I get "At least I'm not whoring myself". I just look at it as playing. About the Kermit...

Re: Ever get insulted for playing covers?

I can TOTALLY see your point. I guess what I was more upset with was the hate for actually being out playing. I'm more in a "rendition band" that still hold pretty true. We play to crowds and people...

Yeah, often tell myself that they don't "get it"> Not that there is anything wrong with only playing originals;just they don't get the concepts. They also can't compose....really. I wonder if it's...
