Re: Suggestions for my new set!

Since you like the Cat Club, I suggest that you find a Gretsch kit that is in your price.
Renowns are really nice and they easily fit your range with room to spare.

Re: Remo drums

I played a Remo kit at a recording studio a few years ago.
I was recording a track with a fusion band that was going on a benefit album for the victims of Sandy Hook Ct.
That was the kit that the...

Re: Can't decide on a rack tom size for a jazz kit

+1
An 8x12 can handle the tight tuning without upsetting the snare as much as a 10" tom does. This is really helpful in a classic Jazz setting.

Re: HELP: trying to find perfect kit

+1. The Ramones were really fun to see live. I caught their show a few times back in the day.

Re: Chris Squire, Yes Bassist found dead

A sad day indeed. I can clearly recall the first time that I heard Roundabout. I was in Jr High School at the time. I have always been a Yes fan. I saw Yes every time that they came to my home state...

Yes, Gatzen explains several scenarios including removing some wires from the middle in the link that I posted.

Re: Long, Detailed in depth review of the Taye GoKit

I have found that coated heads top and bottom make small shallow drums sound better when played outdoors.

Re: Intersting article on Beats Headphones

I sampled a pair of Beats Pro recently and I didn't think that they were any better than my cheap Vic Firth headphones that I use just for practice.

I like my Shure 425 dual driver in ears for...

Re: 18" bass drum for rock!

Lets talk about heads for the 18" BD.
I have found that the Remo PS3 is really great as both batter and resonant.
The Evans EQ3 and EQ3 Reso is also an excellent combination.
Tune your batter...

Re: 18" bass drum for rock!

Great article. I personally found that I like a 4" port on my 18" BD for Rock. That seems to provide the balance of tone that suits my ear for my tuning and head choice.
I tried several different...

Re: 18" bass drum for rock!

I frequently use an 18" bass drum for Rock in small clubs. Sometimes I mic it and sometimes I don't.
Perhaps you could find a 20" or 22" New Classic BD used so that you could have a more versatile...

Re: When you're having a bad night...

It happens to all of us from time to time. We are only human and we don't always perform up to our full potential.
Just take it in stride and move on.

Re: Drummer- the only musician that can't mess up?

It will always be a grey area. Most of the audience doesn't notice every little mistake that musicians make. The people that do see the little mistakes are musicians so they understand and they grant...

Re: Bitter Ginger Baker slating Zeppelin and Bonham - again

The poor man is not in his best mental form. Ginger is what he is. His quirks are part of his charm. Buddy was the same way to a certain extent. Ginger just takes it to a new level.
Beware Mr Baker...

Re: Ludwig Black Beauty, just looked them up

Exactly Bo, the BB is cool but it has its limits. I can't play everything on my BB that I can play on my 70's Gretsch COB. I play best overall with wooden snare drums.
I don't think that it is the...

Re: Ludwig Black Beauty, just looked them up

It is an interesting snare. I have a love/hate relationship with mine. I like it best with the cast hoops. I have two sets of hoops. Overall I like it a freak of a lot more than I don't :) You all...

Re: Tony Williams's Drumset and the Nub of Great Drummers

Nice post. I agree, we all use our love of gear to one degree or another to drive us as we play. In the end it is the drummer and not the drums who create the art.
The old line about the bad...

Re: Drumming Clown on Ed Sullivan

I am at the age where I can remember the drumming clown but I can't for my life remember his name.
I really liked the show when I was a kid.

Hmmmm... Many different answers to a basic question.
I can't say that I didn't see this coming.

The truth is that there is no right answer to a head selection question.
It is the right of the...

I like Evens G1 coated over an Evans clear on my BB with cast hoops.
