Just keep doing it. It takes a while to get that left hand up to snuff. Try working through syncopation with the left hand keeping time and the right comping the rhythms, that helped me alot.

I'd like to point out that if you were at guitar center, you weren't at a drum shop. You were at a corporate guitar store that happens to have a drum section. There is a huge difference.

Reggae is all about feel and grove. Try to record all of the rhythm tracks live, or at least the drums and bass. Record a few takes of every song, go for the best overall take.
