Re: Opinions on what to do with these old ludwig Classic Maples?

man, those drums had been on ebay for a long time. I remember seeing them on there years ago. I believe that blue sparkle is probably turquoise sparkle, hence the greener look. I think the finish is...

Re: HELP!! Brass Snare Question

never had a problem with drummaker. It just seems like they went through a rough patch that can happen sometimes, especially in this economy. The parts can be sketchy to get sometimes since they are...

Re: Double Bass Drum Tone Uneven

I know exactly what you're talking about. A lot of double pedals are configured the same way, and will give you this same issue. However, Pearl's pedals are set up differently, and don't have this...

Re: How do you stabilize a virgin bass drum that jumps up and down?

yes, those spikes are really what keep the thing from moving. I guarantee that was part of your problem. Just put the rubber feet on before you put it back in the case, and you'll be fine. That's...

Re: Ludwig Transition / WFL

check on ebay religiously. You've actually got the most difficult drum to get from that era, which is the 18" floor tom. Either that, or the 14X10, which I don't think was even made till the later...

Re: How do you stabilize a virgin bass drum that jumps up and down?

sounds like it's a pedal issue. You're probably missing a piece of rubber on part of the clamp, and the thing can't grip the hoop properly, or the clamp itself could be defective. Try another pedal ...

Re: Deal of a lifetime or ripped off for being gullable

This kit is from the new Sonor Farce 2014 series. You know, the ones made from Keller shells by someone who "used" to work at Sonor, but got fired after a couple of days, lol.

Re: Yamaha Color Mixing? Cherry Wood (RC) and Cranberry Red (SC)

actually, I just saw an older long lugged stage custom on ebay, and it is the typical cherry stain finish of the time, so I actually think they would be pretty close with the r.c.'s. And yeah, the...

Re: Yamaha Color Mixing? Cherry Wood (RC) and Cranberry Red (SC)

I think the recording custom cherry is a solid finish (no wood grain showing), and the stage custom is a stain finish (plus a little darker), so they will likely not match too closely if that's the...

Re: Demotivated. How do you freshen up?

sometimes it's just utterly boring practicing on your own. Especially if it's basic stuff, or something you'll never really need. I have to play in a band situation, or at least a jam, to keep...

Re: Drumming pain

certain stick finishes can automatically give me blisters. Back when I used Vic Firth I got way more blisters because of the tackier finish. I use Pro Mark now, which almost feel like they have no...

Re: "Whitehall Deluxe Drum" Pre-Pearl 4-Piece Kit

I dig the lugs. And, change the resos for sure if the one in the pic is the one you're using. That thing is real beat up, and getting new ones will certainly improve the sound.

Re: Pearl LTD Edition 30th Anniversary FF

it sounds like they're just restricting the supply HERE so us deep pocket Americans can over pay for the limited edition. And, it works for the most part. Moral of the story- buy this drum from...

Re: How does Ludwig Keep Prices down?

while the classic maple prices are reasonable, their snare prices have gone through the roof over the past few years. I remember back 15 years ago you could get a 402 new for 300$. Now it's well over...

Re: Makers dozen... 8, 10, or 12?

Karl, I have that same 10 lug 14X13 Ludwig I converted to a floor tom. It is a pain to tune, since all the lugs can barely have any tension on them or it will be too high a pitch. With the loose...

Re: Advice on Mapex Black Panther Sledgehammer drum head?

I don't have this snare, but I have a similar model, and I love the Remo Controlled Sound X on mine. Other heads I like are the Aquarian Hi Velocity, and that HD dry actually sounds good as well, and...

Re: 24 inch bass drums

simply put a pillow or sheet inside the drum. Quickest and easiest way to deal with the boominess. With a drum that size, you can still get a lot of tone even with stuffings. Sheets are good, because...

Re: TAMA Artstar snare used by Randy Castillo

Sweet! Just saw a video from that tour a few nights ago. The shell is likely birch on this drum. As far as value goes, it just depends on the buyer, and their desire to own one of Castillo's drums....

Re: Ludwig Supralite 8 x 14

I like the regular cs in small rooms, but when I play them in big rooms they just seem to lose their presence. I don't have that issue with the X. And, I have an old powerstroke x with the ring...

Re: Ludwig Elite bracket/Vibra Band mount question

the washers are so the nut tightens the bracket to the rim mount. Without it the nut bottoms out on the raised part of the bracket where the screw goes in, therefor not tightening properly all the...

Re: Ludwig Supralite 8 x 14

Karl, you should try a Remo Controlled Sound X. These are my go to heads now, after going through tons of different heads, and not finding any to my liking. They are the best of both worlds- they...

Re: This is more like it ;)

yep, I have a couple of these logos. I think the original early 70's logo was little bit smaller than this one, but this is as close as you can probably get. Here's a seller in the U.S. that sells...

no, but that's a great price for that drum, even though I have no idea what that particular wood type is like. Never heard of it before.

Re: Yamaha Peter Erskine 14x4 snare

You should check out the Pearl maple 4X14 piccolo. They can be had for very cheap on ebay, yet they are great quality snares despite the price. It is basically the same as the J.R. Robinson sig snare...
