once you check out Anthony's unison ideas then try playing syncopation patterns over the 8th notes on the HH, you can play the snare on 2 and 4 and play the syncopation exercises with the bass drum.

I prefer playing with the records instead of playalongs, what better way to learn the idiom than by playing with the people who created it? Playalongs are useful but they shouldn't substitute playing...

Both are excellent for jazz beginners, Study in Brown particularly is full of vocabulary,...
