Re: Drumming Injury Advice needed!

I had the exact same thing - scared the crap out of me. Then I went to see a chiro/sports specialist in NYC (Dr. Williams & Dr. Okin) who work with drummers (Dr. Okin knows Steve Gadd). It's...

Re: Steve Maxwell's Rules!

Without them, I would not have been able to restore my Gretsch kit or beloved Gretsch 50's snare. Best shop ever... Best staff anywhere...

On a dangerous note, the shop is around the corner from...

Re: Ringo Starr... Good or bad?

Kudos to Ringo! And once again, people need to remember that drumming is an art form, not a sport - all this competitiveness is unnecessary.

I have tons of respect for Ringo, and this is coming...

Re: Chinese Maple vs. Canadian Maple vs. North American Maple?

Excellent point. Hopefully he can try a used renown in GC or Sam Ash - I've seen a few in the NY/NJ area.

Re: Chinese Maple vs. Canadian Maple vs. North American Maple?

Try a Gretsch renown maple in a store, then buy a used one on eBay for the same price or possibly less that the Meridians, and you are done. You won't need another kit.

Re: Like a virgin, Yamaha bass drum plate.

Replied to PM, not sure if you got it. The "sent" folder doesn't show anything.

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Selling my MODIFIED Yamaha Stage Custom Birch - 6 pc. - 8", 10", 12", 14", 16" and a 22x17" BD. It was bought NEW early in 2012 - natural finish (see pics). I upgraded ALL of the hoops to 2.3mm...

Re: Portnoy and the Winery Dogs

The bass player/singer in my band brought up a very point about Sheehan: Can you think of a famous bass line or groove from him? Anything that you remember... Hmm, he had a point, I think he's great...

Re: The worst drum /cymbal purchase you ever made

Re: Had enough...

It's pretty simple, when you hear foolishness from self absorbed, self important guys like that, ask him to play your rusty trombone. :)

Re: Best Advice You've Been Given

From teachers and wise drummers:

1) Stay out of your own way...

2) Teacher says this to his class: "I will not interfere with your right to fail..."

Questions about volume and shells

This one is for the experts:

1) Are larger diameter birch shells (same height) louder (project more) than thinner maple shells (Gretsch) - i.e. 10" 6mm birch vs. 8" 5.1mm maple?

2) Are Yamaha...

Re: Daniel Liljekvist leaves Katatonia to "get a normal job that gets the bills payed"

Totally agree with you guys. It's possible especially if you do your best to plan & schedule the work accordingly on both ends and appreciate and spend as much time as you can with your spouse/family...

Re: Alternative to Gretsch Renown Kit

Totally agree with Les, I had this experience with my Renowns after trying Aquarian Super II's with the Gretsch stock reso's to clear Emperor's with the same reso's, then to Ebony ambassador's as...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

Thanks man, that's what I thought, and I did play the 4pc signet at a local GC and I was floored - the attack of birch and the body of maple. I have a maple gretsch renown which is a reference point...

Re: Hybrid drummers can I have your attention please?

I'll answer it, but I'll also state that I'm no longer going that route because there's just too much that can go wrong when you are not in a super-pro-touring-fat-wallet band. I just got tired of it...

Re: What's with the Stage Custom snare?

I traded mine in at GC and did not get much for it, maybe 55 bucks. I wasn't a fan of the snare, still love the kit though, especially with 2.3MM hoops on it.

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

That's also what David Garibaldi uses. If I could redo one of my kits, I'd go that route as well. His newer PHX in this config sounds amazing live.

Re: 6 Pc. kit and 9 cymbals on 2 tripods!

That was my biggest concern as well, but they aren't that heavy and I balanced them (shifting which side holds each component) so the weight is fairly equal front to back and side to side - I...
