Re: Favorite Song to Rock out To?

Pat Travers "Snorting Whiskey and drinking Cocaine". This song gets me fired up. Tommy at some of his best!

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

I have a 1938 14x28 Ludwig & Ludwig bass drum followed closely by a 1941 Ludwig & Ludwig snare drum. Both are WMP.

Re: Tuning help for 18" floor tom...

I agree with Bull when he says that larger toms seem to sound better with the reso tighter than the batter. I have a Ludwig 6 ply kit that the floor tom sizes are 18 and 20! If the reso isn't tight...

Re: Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

As promised, here are some pictures of the 1941 snare I picked up over the weekend to go with the bass drum. It's in excellent shape. Sorry for the less than quality pictures - I used my phone. Now...

You're a funny guy Bo! Good one! The purists around here would hate me...

Les, I thought about this, but I can't bring myself to reverse that beautiful patina that took decades to develop. ...

Re: Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

Here are some pictures of the bass drum. It's 14x28 and has long Imperial lugs. As far as completing the kit, I will pick up decent pieces as I come across them - as long as they're from the same...

Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

I recently purchased a 1938 Ludwig & Ludwig kick drum, 14x28, totally virgin and has a beautifully yellowed WMP wrap that is very tight. For those of you who like pictures, I will post some once I...

Re: Do drummers lose points for disassembling the moment the show is done?

I too start to break down my gear right away after the last song. Why? I have the most components to break down out of anyone else in the band. It is a common courtesy if a band is following you (or...

Any tips on micing non-ported kick?

Just like the title says - I'm looking for input on how you might mic a non-ported kick. I've always had ported kicks until recently and I'm not too sure on what technique will yield satisfactory...

Re: # of gigs in 2013?

I had 96 paid gigs last year. We only take off two weekend nights per month plus the occasional event gig.

Re: The disconnect between musicians perspectives and audience perspective

I have two thoughts on this. First off, I am not a fan of other musicians coming up to sit in during one of my bands gigs. I could care less if they were the second coming of Bonzo. When I get...

Re: Bar bands, what's more important...

"A" all the way. I think both Shemp and Karl hit the nail on the head. Honestly, bar / club owners could care less what you look like or how you sound. If they have a great night at the bar...

Re: The biggest gear hoarders in DW

4 Acoustic Kits
28 Snares
Complete set of cymbals and hardware for each kit (roughly 30 cymbals total)
My house isn't exactly "large" and I have to get creative with storage. I'll admit, I have a...

Re: Sonor Force 3007/Select Force Kits

I use a Force 3007 kit as my main gigging kit and so far it's held up well. I will tell you my opinion of the good and bad based on my ongoing experiences with the drums. First, the good;
1.) Great...

Re: Chicks love cowbell

Don't forget the Red Hot Chili Pepper's "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie". My band plays this song and it has cowbell in it. Great dance tune with or without the cowbell however...

Re: The Winery Dogs and Mike Portnoy

There's something I forgot to add to my "review". Mike performed a drum solo as did everyone else in the band. His solo was really short and consisted of a lot of linear chops, some triplet stuff...

The Winery Dogs and Mike Portnoy

I went to see The Winery Dogs last night and I can happily say that it was a great show. Although it was great seeing both Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen who are both extremely talented, it was...

Re: To chrome or not to chrome...

I agree with tamadrm - aluminum can be polished to almost a mirror shine. It is done in steps (using finer and finer media each time) and can be somewhat labor intensive, but IMO it would be worth...

Re: $1000.00 Acrolite?

I may be wrong, but I am very doubtful that Ludwig powder coated that acrolite that color. It's probably a case of where someone did that on their own.

Re: Magstar Drums

Rob Kampa has been working as the craftsman for Drum Supply House USA (aka DrumMaker.com) in their custom shop since 2005. Although he works for Andy Foote, he is still making snares and kits.

Re: Magstar Drums

Yes, it's called red satin flame. Nice looking kit - you'll love that 20" kick! Rob does use Keller shells like a lot of other custom companies out there. However, his bearing edges and...

Re: Magstar Drums

I love Magstar drums! I own one of Rob's personal kits and also own 6 of his snares! His bearing edges and attention to detail are top notch. I would recommend him highly as I don't know of any...

Re: Ludwig (large shell) kit question

Digibird, I have a 8x14 natural maple colesium snare waiting to go with this kit. It's seems like everything just fell into place with the kit because I bought that snare from the same store as well.

Re: Ludwig (large shell) kit question

Thanks Karl for the input. I'm excited - it's a far cry from the sizes of my "home" kit. That kit is a Magstar maple in the following sizes; 7x8, 7x10, 7x12, 12x14, and 13x16. I'm going from...

Re: Ludwig (large shell) kit question

Now matter what, this will be a fun kit to play. I'm looking forward to getting it. I'm not really too worried about not burying the beater. I used to trigger my kick for a while until relatively...
