Re: Tama Power Metal snares...opinions?

Ain't no "settling" with a Starphonic between your knees.

Thanks, Jank. The amount of time spent cleaning these drums is far more than the time spent on photography. Rags & a lot of Q-tips,...

Re: Tama Power Metal snares...opinions?

Thanks! I had a slow week and decided to photograph my kit, starting with my snares. Here's my "beer can" snare (Starphonic aluminum), which is now my #1 favorite. It's got the bite of a metal snare,...

Re: Tama Power Metal snares...opinions?

The only "bronze" snare made by Tama, that has the word "bronze" in its description is the Simon Phillips Signature Gladiator snare...

Re: Thanks ... I think

We played at a gig last weekend that hosted many bands all day long. After our set a guy came up and said "Wow. You guys are intense".

Re: Thoughts On Phil Collins??

Love his drumming. Dislike his voice. I did buy his first solo album Face Value and enjoyed most of those tracks. In 1987 I saw him live but by then his vocals annoyed me. I prefer him behind the kit.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

In the 2011 documentary Back and Forth, Taylor Hawkins is tracking one of the Foo's new tunes and he quickly shatters a few sticks. He ain't a noob.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

The sound of modern Zildjian cymbals is inferior to their product of the 1960s.
Zildjian drumsticks break way too easily.
Paiste is too conservative in their product design.
Remo heads produce...

Here's the entire tune (http://youtu.be/xx3Pzv3xJd4), if anyone's interested in how the rest of it worked out.

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

She has such a nice voice. What was the guy thinking? Perhaps there was a "disagreement" backstage, and the drummer just had to show her who really controls the gig.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

Well, the road crew is small.

But, if successful, their income is huge (http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2013/08/14/electronic-cash-kings-2013-the-worlds-highest-paid-djs/).

Re: What is your opinion of this Billy Cobham review?

Maybe this guy has never actually listened to a BC album. His drums are always mixed to the front.

However, the only time I saw BC live was in a smallish theater in 1978. Perhaps things have...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I thought I was alone on this.

I think their older cymbals (1960s) sound much better than today's issues.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I think the revised Tama glue-on wart-badges are the ugliest badge of any brand. I wish they'd stuck to the decals. It looks like a bird crapped on these toms.

Re: Intermediate drum set advice

Tama Silverstar (http://www.tama.com/Silverstar/index.html). 100% birch shells, suspended toms, and great hardware. You can't go wrong for the price.

A step up would be the Tama Starclassic...

Re: Musical artists whose death saddened you.

The death of Jimi Hendrix shocked me the most. The years later I felt almost the same sadness when Stevie Ray Vaughn died. I really enjoyed the music both these guys made.

Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

A mess of people here love the Ludwig Acrolite (mostly 'cuz of its cost), but being a Tama fanboy I opted for the Starphonic Aluminum. This thing has blown my mind with its punch and crispiness. Even...
