Re: The modern history of the drumset

I sort of agree, but I don't really feel these drum makers were really influencing the market so much as supplying the observed demand of players. The drum kit is an exceptionally western instrument...

Re: The modern history of the drumset

I'm certainly not trying to argue that further context is needed, but I'm also curious as to what sorts of influence these outside cultures had on an instrument that was specifically developed to...

Re: "You're a drummer? Oh can you play..."

This is kind of a weird one, but there was a girl in my band class that always wanted me to play "Tourette's" by Nirvana, which was fun, but understandably uncomfortable for the rest of my peers in...

Re: The modern history of the drumset

Thank you for your criticism!

Those are all things I want to address in depth, but honestly I'm still reading and trying to learn about this stuff.

Also this is just one article of many I'm...

Re: I don't like my drumming . . . .

Look up linear fills and grooves, that's the sort of stuff I worked on to get passed this.

Another way to think about things is to section off your kit. Doing a fill that's gonna be more frilly...

Re: What's on your bass drum reso head?

I have a clear ps3 on the front and a coated ps4 on the batter side.

I don't put logos on my drums because nobody is paying me to, and i leave it blank otherwise because only one of my kits is...

Re: The modern history of the drumset

I actually disagree with this on a number of levels. I wasn't alive back then, but from my understanding, manufacturers had offered concert toms in their orchestral divisions for years. Innovative...

The modern history of the drumset

Hey everyone,

I've always been fascinated with the history of the drum set, but i feel there isn't much discussion about it passed the late 80s to mid 90s.

With that in mind I began to write...

Re: 10" 16" 22" Setup?

Even dudes like Barker have used 10" rack toms live. I find they actually cut through a lot more easily than my 12" on live recordings

Re: NAMM 2010 Sonor Booth

how could you say that about some of the most refined looking drums on the market? every one of those drums looks like a piece of high end hand made furniture

i can't wait till i can afford...

Re: Top level kits worth it?

buy a used high end kit, they're going for next to nothing right now. i've seen sonors, pearls, ludwigs, and gretschs high end stuff go for under a grand! don't skimp out.

Re: Kick Drum size 24" or 22"

i'm not sure it takes that much extra to play a 24", but i've grown up doing it so i dunno. but i agree that a 14x24 would give you that ooomph with out sacrificing playability.

Re: Regrets about your first drumset

i waited for a long time, and my dream kit, a blue ludwig vistalite fell into my 14 year old hands in winter of '02. The drums have not only shaped the way i play, but also what kits i will and...

Re: How do I tell what speeds I should be practicing at in order to get faster

wow, i'd be down right depressed if i hadn't been able to wail on my own kit in 5 years.

Re: Change in Drum Finish Taste as You Get Older?

as far as i know finishply is a different process than your average wrap job.

if you've ever taken a look at a finish ply shell you can see that the wrap appears as if its part of the shell. and...

Re: Truth drums or SJC?

i'd say look into C&C or noble & cooley, i feel in terms of american customs, they're some of the only ones making real custom drums, that is not keller/rci shells, plus they're just more luxourious...

Re: DW Drums (Good Deal? Yay or Nay?)

i agree

16x16's are a pain when it comes to tuning, though if you're getting drums that big, you probably tune low
