Re: The matching snare

Nothing passive about my statement mate, I mean it in its fullest sense. So I made a PA statement but I am not PA, have you finished all your training?

Well, a snare that comes with a 700 shell...

Re: The matching snare

I was "Passive aggressive" but now I am "Weak", well thanks for the insights into my personality failings, nice to know you are not simply knowledgeable when it comes to drumming but dabble in...

Re: The matching snare

I am not arguing that some drummers feel a snare that comes with a good quality kit is not to there liking. I would argue the term mis matched. Made from the same material I would expect it to be a...

Re: The matching snare

It was a response to a highlighted comment in a post I was answering from BFY.

"On this forum, I would say that on average, most users here are more knowledgable than the larger drumming...

Re: Have i lost it?

Everyone is different. I bought Stick Control as it was lauded by all and sundry, only to find.....its a load of rudiments. It has sat on a bookcase for 7 years now. I hate rudiments, I play along...

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Keep at it, please don't get too depressed. Most of us play because we simply love to, most of us don't have all the chops. You could be over critical. Pick the song you love to play the most and...

Re: The matching snare

I find that surprising, I would assume a drum forum would be a meeting place for all levels of drummer, and all opinions. I have been playing off and on for 50 years but I am still more than happy...

Re: The matching snare

Not being belligerent at all, merely stating that If a manufacturer can make a perfectly acceptable kit, from whatever material, I find it weird that almost every post on this thread is all for...

Re: The matching snare

No its not. You take the relevant diameter shell, cut it to the desired depth, and cut a bearing edge the same as the others. Cut the snare recesses, add strainer and butt end and off you go, its...

Re: The matching snare

So.....you are suggesting drum manufacturers can produce drum shells in all configurations except snare drum sizes? Right.

Re: The matching snare

Two kits, two matching snares, use them both with the kits they came with, why not? Do manufacturers make good kits and send them out with rubbish snare drums? Each to there own but I think there is...

Re: Another Band Drama Thread

Explain to the rest of the band what the respected musician told you, he has no vested interest. If they wont accept it ask the guy if he will repeat his views to the rest of the band, and you can...

Re: Recording technique

There is a big difference between "Not perfect", and all over the place. I try very hard not to use a click, I would much rather a song flowed and felt great than it being perfect tempo wise.

If...

Re: Recording technique

Personally, if its a very rhythmic song I would do the drums and bass first, using the other instruments to highlight and accent the sound. If its a riff heavy song you can lay the guitar track down...

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

I still think the meet up before you play is the way to go. I joined a newly forming band in the pub for a drink and a chinwag. We talked about what we have done and what we liked musically and...

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

It will, eventually be about making music, but if the other person is, to your mind, a weirdo, or a control freak or just a boring person that you would not chose to spend any time with, a drink or a...

Re: How to make music!

Find some other guys who want to play and have a jam, there is nothing like playing with others to give you a buzz and bring on your playing.

Other than that there are drumless tracks available,...

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

I usually meet up with people socially and find out if we are on the same page, or fairly near, musically before committing to a jam or a practice. You can glean a lot about someone from one face to...

Re: 10.000 hours of practice is not the magic number

One thing for sure, through running you will always be fit enough for the longest and sweatiest gig. Some good times there mate.

Re: 10.000 hours of practice is not the magic number

Hi Jim. Road was my thing, I didn't start till my mid 30s but loved it straight away. 10 miles was my favorite distance, 54 mins my best time, done on the classic Brampton to Carlisle course. I...

Re: 10.000 hours of practice is not the magic number

Who said anything about "Running for the sake of running" It was very much training for the sake of racing. Anyone who is a natural competitor will understand this, and the first person you compete...

You a runner Jim? Nice one.

I had to give it up and start cycling due to a chronic knee injury. Tuesday nights were the big club night and our group would trash each other during whatever...

Re: 10.000 hours of practice is not the magic number

+1 If its fun, its fun, regardless of the fact you may get paid for it.

Lessons and formal learning?......too much like school.

Good Bassist.

I joined a new band a month ago, well not strictly a new band, a guitarist and singer duo were looking to form a band rather than using there backing tracks. Anyway. We have had 5 band practices and...
