Re: Gretsch Broadkasters Vintage Build; Floor Tom Legs Rattle Against Rezo Hoop

Yes, it's the same hole spacing. I swapped out the old diamond brackets on my SSB players gig kit and it worked out fine. I did have to ream the holes slightly because the casting ears on the newer...

Re: Gretsch Broadkasters Vintage Build; Floor Tom Legs Rattle Against Rezo Hoop

The vintage brackets are unchanged from the design years ago and they were a problem back then. Another Gretsch quirk that still surfaces. I have them on my RB kit and have to flex the legs away from...

Re: Got my Gretsch Brookyln today. But...

Gretsch doesn't list a 18x20, only a 16x20. As far as the 12x14 floor tom, I have that size on my Renown kit and it works just fine

Re: Gretsch USA Custom with Aquarian Heads

I tried an Aquarian Texture Coated on the snare drum and also on on the 12" tom. I spoke to Steve Maxwell (who I ordered the kit through) regarding this and his was response was Evans heads are the...

Re: Gretsch USA Custom with Aquarian Heads

I posted this link to my experience with my USA Custom kit and it was lost when the forum crashed a few weeks ago. I settled on Evans Level 360's as they work well with the drums.
Here it is again:...

Re: Gretsch USA Custom with Aquarian Heads

Wrong, the metal hoop of the head hits the wrap before the head is fully tensioned, at least that was my experience

Re: Gretsch USA Custom with Aquarian Heads

Great heads although they will not fit on USA Customs with a wrap.

Re: Renown and New Classic Question

You can remove the lugs/mount from the drum and there is a set screw inside the lug you loosen. Then the lug comes apart allowing you to remove the tom mount.
Also, I have to disagree with the post...

Re: Question for Gretsch guys about a particular Renown set

I have a Silver Slate Sparkle Renown Groove kit, 20,10,12,14,14sn bought new in 2009. Great kit, the finish is a polyurethane/sprayed on type finish The kits were on closeout at MF for around...

Re: Chad Smith Snare or Acrolite

I installed a set of Puresound Custom Pro 20 strand brass wires on one of my Acrolite's. The brass wires removed a bit of the dryness and has been my go to gigging drum. The drum also gets ton of...

Re: Considering buying a Gretsch New Classic Bop kit

Sounds like a fair deal with a snare included. Post pictures when you have a chance.

Rumor has it Gretsch is discontinuing the NC's, plenty of closeout pricing around. Great kits for sure!

Re: mapex meridian arrived!

Great to hear you are pleased with your Meridian kit! Hard to beat Meridian's at their price point.

Re: decided on a kit!!!

Good choice, Meridian Maples are very nice drums, A few years ago I bought a used Meridian Maple Manhattan Bop kit to try and then flip. Turned out to be one of my favorite kits ever. I own 12 kits...

Re: Renown vs. Meridian: Worth the Extra $500?

The kick is a 22x16 and sounds huge. My only 22" is a 70's Gretsch SSB and I run Emad batter and non ported Fiberskyn reso on both kits. They sound very close.

Re: Renown vs. Meridian: Worth the Extra $500?

I would give the Meridian kit an 8. Well worth the money and they sound great. The shells are thinner than the Renown's with a sharper bearing edge. The finish is very nice but the lugs, tom mounting...

Re: Renown vs. Meridian: Worth the Extra $500?

I own both kits and while the Meridian's are a great value, they are not in the same league as the Renown series. I would spend the extra money for the Renown kit as it is well worth it. In addition,...

Re: Gretsch USA Custom VS Ludwig Legacy

+1, I own a 20,12,14,14sn, Legacy kit and a 18,12,14,14sn Gretsch USA kit and Chunkaway nailed it. The Legacy kit with it's rounded bearing edges are fat and round sounding like 60's 3 ply Ludwig's...

Re: Pearl aluminium, or Ludwig?

if you like a dry sound consider a Blackrolite. The powder coating really mutes the overtones.
BTW- Pearl discontinued the aluminum Sensitone although you could get lucky and find one in stock

Re: 1963 Slingerland

Great kit, love the wrap, I have it on my Slingies. Please consider single ply Aquarian Texture coated heads, let them sing.
