Re: Bonham triplet spacing

My all time favorite "thing" is rolls on the kit, so many variations.
RH K K LH (eigth notes)
Rh LH K (triplets)
RH K ("single strokes")

I could never get them to sound fluid and fast enough to...

Re: Unissons & Single Strokes

Valuable exercise.
I have always thought that unisons/flat flams should be declared as a rudiment. It has more value, greater use than a parraflamadiddle or other such "rudiments"

Thanks for the...

Re: Beginner - easy songs are freaking hard!

It might be more difficult just picking simple songs and then "de-code" the drumming part and then try and play with the drumming.
The Vic Firth site has hundred of play-alongs, with drums, without...

Re: Best/Worst or Favorite/Least Favorite finishes?

Can't stand Wine red... every (below) entry level kit seems to come in wine red so it could be the best kit in the drumming universe but if it's wine red I immediately think cheapo junk

Re: How to improve jazz drums

I would recommend the John Riley book "The Art of Bop Drumming" for technique. It's also important (I believe) to understand where Jazz drumming came from to where it is now. There is a nice series...

Re: How Many Notes Constitute A Fill?

To me they are two different things. A fill is a short phrase, a bar maybe. It adds to the music by creating emphasis, dynamic tension, segues into a change (chorus/capo etc). It's generates...

Re: About Live gigs Drumming - Tips Please!

A roll of gaffer tape.. 90% of all your disasters can be fixed with tape.. not pretty but if you have to fix something between songs it's fast!

The biggest piece of preparation though sits with...

Re: Should I be annoyed?

I had just the opposite, and to me this is the right way of doing things IMHO.
Went to my nieces wedding, half way through the night the band tells me that "apparently" I'm a drummer and the bride...

Re: Elbows; like a chicken or straight jacket

[QUOTE=Hollywood Jim;1525386]Sorry, but if I start thinking about where my elbows are while I'm playing, I'll go crazy.
I'll lose the groove and I won't be able to execute even a simple fill.

May the fourth be with me

Maybe I should work on better puns.. but
I messed around with a 4th pedal last night (so double pedals, HH and 4th doing a jam block, cowbell or tamborine). Not mine, so I'm yet to buy one.

Re: Playing "For Exposure"

The big problem in playing for "exposure" is that most often it's just not true. I've had too many gigs (not my choice, reluctantly agree to do it "for the band") where "Harry's Bar" doesn't have...
